1. They hate us for our freedom to overthrow their democratically elected government.
And their oil we liberated, for free.

Also October 1964...SOFA with Iran

In the book "The Eagle and the Lion" James Bill had this to say.

"Few political observers or scholars of Iran then understood the long term significance of what was happening. One notable exception was T. Cuyler Young of Princeton University who witnessed first-hand in Iran the explosive anti-Americanism that rose in reaction to the SOFA."

"Young's views were brushed aside by the American foreign policy establishment, and the Council on Foreign Relations chose not to publish his excellent manuscript of Iran..."

6. "...............and more pliable than Mossadagh" .

That was a VAST understatement, and is largely why Iran is what it is today. Hopefully, there'll be a fuller YouTube of that program on the web. But if there are anyone here unfamiliar with that coup, Google: "Operation Ajax". Wiki would be a good place to start searching from.

Just a short while ago, I had loaded the Audible.com of "Overthrow" (by Stephen Kinzer) into my cellphone, and was getting ready to listen to it (for the second time) when I spotted this. It's a very good book, and I strongly recommend it. That Obama made a specific reference to that coup in his Cairo speech was ASTOUNDING. We (and the whole world) should reap much benefits from that in days to come. That's why I'm cutting him such slack on other issues. I suggest to the "perfectionists" here on DU, to at least consider doing the same.

On edit: "All The Shah's Men", also by Stephen Kinzer, would be much more specific to this coup. I also have that in Audible.com format, but will probably follow through on the first book.

And contrary to my above, I'm now in the process of downloading "All The Shah's Men" into my cell-phone, and will be getting to it shortly.
