16. You know, I'm awfully tired of that sad, worn-out cliche...
"Wake up, people!" - especially coming as it does most often from dumb motherfuckers who think nazi Reptilians from the hoolow earth are going to irradiate our meat and make the negros revolt and then prove the holocaust was not only fake, but perpetrated by Atlanteans.

Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 09:40 PM by victordrazen
with that post, it sounds like it. People don't want to think, they just want to feel good and be a part of something even if it is bogus. The plans for Afghanistan were in before 9-11 and Obama said the reason we are there is because of the 3000 people who died that day. (huh?) The monopolistic media will never let the good ones (ie Kucinich) win.

What a phony, Maher IS a "corporate douchebag".

46. Fuck Kucinich and the horse he rode in on.
He's a nice pie in the sky side show. Not a real option. You know why? Not because "the media won't let him win." Because America ia NOT a liberal country. It is way more liberal that the past eight years, and even more liberal than most main stream Democrats...but not truly liberal Kucinich is a dyed in the wool liberal. That ain't a terrible thing. I love that he in in congress... I love that he is the beacon of liberal thought 5 miles ahead of everyone else. We need Kucinich to show where we are going....but we won't get there in his life time - or mine.

That being said (and before someone accuses me of being a Freeper), I do NOT understand what the fuck Obama and the Democrats in congress are waiting for. Keeping their powder dry? There is tantamount to unanimous agreement (85% - it don't get any better than that) that we need a public option for insurance at the very least - even at the expense of higher taxes. There is no better time to REALLY re-regulate the banks and insurance companies to make sure they NEVER again get "too big to fail." And all these people want to do is prop up the same bullshit system that has ripped off the entire nation over the last 20 years.

This doesn't mean I want republican rule back in place - I just want the democrats to do what we the people are CLEARLY telling them we want done! They are our best hope - but they are a frustratingly timid and mincing lot.

64. Funny how that short guy
makes the President seem so small. Bothersome isn't it? Having an actual Democrat to compare him to.
So as always, there is nothing but an verbal attack upon the man, based on nothing but some poster's opinion. You have nothing to counter with but characterizations. Because you got nothing of substance to say. Nada. Zip. Zero. Just an insult without foundation, in the grand tradition of those who must defend anything, but know how to defend nothing. Getting old and so predictable.

Edited on Mon Jun-22-09 04:12 PM by HopeOverFear
(although you wouldn't know it to look at him) they're BOTH ENTERTAINERS; and they're both playing a role. No more, no less. And as for the "religion" Maher brought up; It's clear that he worships HIMSELF anyway, so of course he's going to be threatened by someone else receiving a lot of admiration.

He's right, over the weekend, DiFi (Dianne Feinstein, ) was trying to say there weren't enough votes in the Senate for the Public Option, which a CBS News/NY Times poll shows that the vast, overwhelming majority wants. We have to climb over the Democrats before getting to the repugnicants.

24. Pretty common sense - if it was the Republican brand on many of Obama's policies

And, appointments...

There would be universal consensus on this board. Put a D after the name with a hip feel good kinda branding - and hey - he's doing one heck of a job.

And, yeah, I know he has only been in office for five months. I am basing what I am saying on what he has DONE in those five months. Pillaging our treasury to hand over to the banks...letting the health insurance companies dictate the fate of our health care 'reform'...Expanding the war in Afghanistan while Iraq continues to drain out the life blood of our intergrity and finances.

We need a third party because the dems have become the Republicans (with very few exceptions and I would hope that they would be the ones to stand up and lead the way).

We need rules... we're a nation of them.

When it becomes conventional wisdom to continue the policies of corporate welfare (bowing to big pharma and looking the other way while the insurance K street lines the pockets of congress), that's when a true Democrat should speak up and agree with Bill Maher.

Remember the Democratic wing of the Democratic party? Maher was speaking that truth to the kind of power apparently still holding it over this administration's head. That same power elite are making it pretty clear they don't give a shit how many people fall to the wayside receiving the worst of healthcare access, or if this government acts on behalf of the banking industry to socialize the rape and pillage of our time and our kids future.

Here's someone who's calling it out like it is. What would he be jealous of? What the fuck's a matter with that?

I think that's pretty much what Maher's message was on that particcular "new rules" piece. Sometimes it's gonna including poking through the promises of the president.

Isn't independent thinking supposed to work this way? I don't let anyone think for me either, including my president. THAT'S WHY I KEEP TELLING OUR PRESIDENT what 85% of the other people are saying about health care.

And what is with all the hate here, I don't see Bill saying he hates Obama, but he certainly isn't fawning over him absolutely gobsmacked.
He's only holding him, and even more so the pussy Dems in congress, accountable. What's wrong with that. If our party is not going to do anything for the people, they might as well team up with the Repubs and we can have ourselves a nice little one party dictatorship.:sarcasm:

The Dems need to grow a pair.
If the Dems were as "passionate" and forceful as the Repubs in delivering a progressive platform, THE US WOULD BE A HELL OF A LOT BETTER OFF!

62. Bill has been hitting the nail on the head the last two weeks
And not one of the folks who criticize his work here offer a counter argument, much less a funny counter joke. Instead, they simply attack Bill personally. The pretend that an opinion they do not like is an attempt to 'tell them how to think.' They pretend that the running gag 'New Rules' is an attempt to make actual rules, instead of a comic bit, a schtick. "Comics don't make my rules" well good for you, no comic is trying to. The man is telling you his opinion, in America, and most Americans agree with him.
And the ones who don't can not exactly say why, so they call Bill names.

Bill's not your father in law. He's a comic.
