There are many things wrong with Bachmann and host Megyn Kelly’s so-called analysis: First, both women were shocked that the Census would ask for people’s telephone numbers. However, that information is not required by law, and is used only to contact recipients who have incomplete forms.

Second, Bachmann is confusing the 2010 Census and the American Community Survey (ACS), a long-form survey sent out to one in 40 households (0.0028 percent of the American public) each year. The Census, sent out once every ten years, asks only about one’s age, race, and the type of home one lives in. The ACS, started in 1996, collects more detailed data used to distribute more than $300 billion in federal funds to local communities.

Most importantly, the questions that Bachmann is so concerned about — questions she suggests might somehow lead to internment — are not new questions (not to mention they frequently overlap with information given to the IRS every year). Census questions on race have been asked since 1790; home language since 1890; rent since 1880; and income since 1940. Finally, it’s a federal crime for any Census worker to violate the confidentiality of the Census form, punishable by a federal prison sentence of up to five years, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

Other than that, there should be a "I'm not going to answer any other questions" box.

I had residences in two states because I worked two hours away from my primary residence. They HOUNDED me to fill out the census form in the second state despite my repeatedly telling them that I had already filled it out in my home state. That would have counted me twice! I flat out refused.

Your Drivers License, SS number, Credit Cards (if you have them), Bank Account etc..

If you are going to be that paranoid, do one of two things.

Do not elect reps. like Bachman; people like her have a level of double think that would rival anything that Eric Blair could dream up; and would be the ones that would use information like that to suppress the citizenry, at the same time they are denouncing such things.

Or just move into a deep dark cave.

How many own, rent or live on the street.
How that breaks down by race since it is still a factor in the life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in America.
How many are employed, unemployed or who's employment does not pay the bills?
How many disabled children live here?
How many veterans are still living?
How many people will need SS or Medicare next year, in five years, in twenty?

It is vital and worth the intrusion for our leaders to have the facts rather than the hype.

All they have to do is mine the date with the key words.

Yeah! Can't they dial 411 like everybody else???

All the info they are complaining about is on record somewhere anyway.

Acorn has not broken any laws. The company itself is suing the employees that cheated them, are they not?

I just assumed the people who were asking me about acorn didnt know what the census was. I dont understand the association, are they mad because people who have worked for acorn havent been specifically banned from applying for census jobs?

will refuse to answer census questions, not be counted, therefore will be underrepresented and not get any public funds or benefits...

I hear a lot of people complaining about the census and other studies conducted by the gov't (including many here at DU)

say what you will ...I have been part of conducting gov't studies for over 10 years and it pays my bills. (got into heated debate with repub at a Texas county fair, during the 'drill baby drill' phase, and he accused me of living off the gov't tit and I found that to be a bit bizarre)

I am currently working on the NHANES and have been involved in the Census, NSDUH and a number of longitudinal health studies.

Is this woman certifiable or what?! :crazy:
