1. I'm not sure he talked around the issue.
It seems like he said what he meant; 'the President is not going to stop DADT; it's up to the Congress'.

It's very sad, really. I thought Obama would be smart enough to see why DADT is so wrong. Pushing it down the road, or off on someone else, is not leadership.

2. naw he talked around it when asked again
'until' congress gets aROUND to it, why cant Obama sign an ex order to end the pratice of it, and he just ran back to blah blah blah
i.e., no one wants to touch it....and you are right, they are all being chickenshits.

3. Because an executive order is stupid.
Get a clue, if Obama puts out an executive order then no one in Congress will pass anything because they'll say he did do something. If or when another Republic President comes around they could easily put it back in place and so then Obama would have done nothing and millions of gays in the military would suffer for it once again.

It's a mess to do something like that and illogical. The Congress has stalled Obama in Gitmo, they want to fuck him on health care, if he did an executive order nothing would be done to repeal DADT or DOMA.

7. You're confused.
You believe something *will* be done on DADT or DOMA. An Executive Order will be all we'll get - ever. He could at least stop the bleeding for a while.

8. In a strange way, there's something almost majestic reading what someone
who doesn't have a clue what in the world they're talking about, go on and on about gay-related discrimination!

But no sadly, it's actually not majestic.

It's flat out embarrassing.

4. The guy sincerely seems to not know about the "stop loss" order
As I believe it's named----which is not an executive order but a temporary signage by the President to stop the actions of a law if it's during the time of war. In any event, he looks lost by it and I noted that he did not know the answers to it. He said he would get back to it, so I'll wait until he does because as many people have said Gibbs, "doesn't lie."

5. they are all passing the buck
glbt issues have been put on the back burner...civil rights have been put on the back burner. hundred of thousands of citizens are being told they are second class citizens and are being told to fuck off.

6. He didn't talk around the issue at all
Edited on Sat Jun-27-09 12:08 PM by Cali_Democrat
He said that Congress should pass legislation instead of Obama signing an executive order. It's called passing the buck.

For some reason Obama thinks that dealing with GLBT issues in his first term may cost him reelection. Maybe they've done some internal polling and they don't like what they saw

Although that is still no excuse.

9. So.... why can't Congress do it?
I mean, do we have a majority or not? Do Dem Congress-critters think DADT is "working" or beneficial? Is there any proof it does nothing but eliminate good people?
It seems like a no-brainer for Congress to get rid of the law. That is their job, not Obama's. Anything Obama does is temporary. He cannot just order a law to go away.

10. Gibbs reminds me of Ari Fleischer. Gibbs arrogant smirk and obvious fronts and dodging is to
reminiscent of the Bush Administration for comfort.
