what he doesn't mention, and should be mentioning to underscore the insanity of assuming a broken hymen means a woman is not a virgin, is that the hymen can be ruptured by many sports activities.

As well, not all women bleed when their hymen breaks.

Given these realities the leaders in these cultures should speak out to reduce the significance of a broken hymen rather than warn girls against masturbation.

I enjoyed reading the chapter on the hymen in this excellent book.

It talks about misconceptions and points out that lack of research from the medical field and conflicting reports.
But it points out that the inner side of the hymen is estrogen sensitive and that puberty does the work, not the mechanics. It looks like it's a myth.


In the meantime, I would follow his suggestion.
