This is from June 10, 2009, but since there is renewed interest in it with the post on the front page of DU and in the Top 5 of the Greatest Page, and this particular video has never been posted before, I'm posting it today.

DU Thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6015277

From YouTube: Visit us at http://www.hillbillyreport.org I tuned into CSPAN 3 to watch the Live Stream video of the House HELP single payer hearing.

When the hearing had to temporarily adjourn for members to cast 3 votes on the House floor CSPAN 3 inserted a video of Betsy McCaughey, PhD. of the conservative Manhattan Institute speaking about the evils of single payer. When CSPAN 3 retuned to the HELP single payer hearing, the hearing was already in progress. What kind of coverage is this? Of course the video of the hearing is up now without Betsy McCaughey, PhD. of the conservative Manhattan Institute. Kind of like it never happened, but it did and I have the video to prove it.

It appears to me CSPAN 3 has taken sides on this issue and what they did is very questionable.

Dennis Kucinich kind of evened things out when set Dr. David Gratzer, Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow, straight during the hearing and that video is below, if CSPAN 3 doesn't make me take it down.

10. As a thought problem, The health care issue is a very good issue to show clearly
where the different groups are. I am not going to jump to conclusions on who is 'in on it' by commenting on CSpan or individuals. Too much noise, so its much easier to just wait and see how it ends up. Then the parties will be clear on where they stand and how deep things go. However even the noise does point to areas that are wrong.

The more and more it is watched, the more it seems that a few people want to run society. I am hoping that is not true, or not the way it ends up, because that is not sustainable. I actually am believing that a few people think they can, and are failing so they are trying to use methods of noise to confuse the issue with the populace. Which again points out something else to be fixed.

If you were in 1800 USA and you saw slavery, you would know it is wrong. People could argue, control, set agendas, they could do all kinds of things, but it would still be wrong. That is the point. It is not about what can be done, it is not even about what people think it will mean for their own futures. It is about what is right and wrong in a representative democracy.

And if it is wrong, and it happens, then all things that created that wrong have to be changed. But here is the kicker, if people are unwilling to change what is wrong, if they like what is wrong, what are the methods available to change things? They are far fewer, but that does not mean they should not happen, regardless of what they are, because wrong can not be allowed to be the system. It is not complicated nor difficult to understand, if it is wrong it has to be changed.

However not believing in ends justifies means, I would not be part of anything bad, nor would I support it. But at the same time, I believe it would happen. It would have to happen to fix the situation. Which is why I think things will work out through legislation, because the alternatives are an admission of a non representative form of government.

17. About this twit and the Manhattan Institute
David Gratzer's most recent book, with Foreword by Milton Friedman, is The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care.

Sourcewatch re: Manhattan Institute:

The Manhattan Institute is "focused on promoting free-market principles whose mission is to 'develop and disseminate new ideas that foster greater economic choice and individual responsibility.'"<2>

"The Manhattan Institute concerns itself with such things as 'welfare reform' (dismantling social programs), 'faith-based initiatives' (blurring the distinction between church and state), and 'education reform' (destroying public education)," Kurt Nimmo wrote October 10, 2002, in CounterPunch.<3>

Now I want to go see the whole damn thing, what solutions does this guy have, and what kind of a "doctor" is he?

Probably a PhD. of something, never treated a patient...

I will Google

Well Wiki, has an article on him, and he's an actual MD. But I bet he doesn't do much treating of patients.

No-where does it list where he did his internship after med school. In fact, it looks like he pretty much just went right into the RW think tank field , writing books and articles about how people get too much health care and how poor people are poor because they are lazy. I'm gonna bet the guy never has done a day of manual labor in his life.

57. Gratzer and Milton Friedman were on the same page
David Gratzer, a physician, is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. His research interests include consumer-driven health care, Medicare and Medicaid, drug reimportation, and FDA reform. The late Milton Friedman, Nobel Laureate in Economics, wrote that Dr. Gratzer is "a natural-born economist." David Gratzer's most recent book, with Foreword by Milton Friedman, is The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care (Encounter Books, October 2006).
