Barack Obama, the US president, has chosen Ghana for his first presidential visit to sub-Saharan Africa.

Residents of the West African nation, which is being hailed as an example of good governance in the region, are preparing to welcome a man that many of them see as one of their own.

Al Jazeera English's Yvonne Ndege reports from Accra, the capital.

2. Not enough pieces like this in American news media.
I wish democratic success stories like Ghana's were more prevalent in the news. Despite ranking relatively low in factors like HDI (Human Development Index), Ghana has made great progress and is already looking like a beacon for what other African nations can aspire to. They're on the right track, though they still need strong partners both within the African continent and in the West.
