1. There are several other threads on this, but this is the only one with video.
Thanks. I heard this on Rachel's show last night, but hadn't seen Col. Jacobs interview. Interesting that he didn't mention the part about testing the Constitution.

2. This is good if only to clear up the question I had.
Did Bush and Cheney even KNOW we had a Constitution?

3. they sure did... they actively tried to undermine the Constitution... high crime
they should be locked up, and that should be the neo-con GOP legacy for years to come. We are starting to look more and more like Nazi Germany prior to the rise of Hitler. If they are not held accountable, I'm sure those elements will carry over to another GOP administration.

4. I couldn't agree more.
Obama needs to wise up about that. If all we do is look forward, we're looking forward to what we just go rid of. We need a Nuremberg-style trial to set a precedent first, then we look forward.

This is a good story for anyone who says the assassination squads would only be used on foreign soil to go after terrorists. And they don't even stand out like the military would.

I really hate to say this, but I'm ashamed to be an American right now, much in the same way I imagine Germans of the fifties were ashamed to be German.

12. My Mother is German, and yes, it's a blight on all Germans...
it's what can happen in ANY country, given the right chemistry of events, as we have seen here already. I do believe however, America is too different for their efforts to completely succeed at this point in time. Germany was much less cultural than America is.... but that doesn't mean it can't happen here in the future.

More people need to hear or read this before it is too late. They will try and try until we put an end to their efforts.

15. Thank you.
And I should add I don't mean that as a put-down of anyone, German or American.

My concern, and my father-in-law is a good example of this, is that too many Americans believe that whatever we do is right because we're American. And that is wrong. The real truth is we are people just like everyone else. We have the same qualities and the same faults; and we should never believe someone in government just because he tells us he's doing it for our good and our safety.

The reason, as I understand it, that Hitler came to power was because he said what the people wanted to hear and manipulated their fears to his advantage. We are certainly vulnerable in that respect.

Kind of a long-winded way of saying "I agree" but there you have it.

I wanted to confirm what you stated.

7. There is no doubt that that is the aim in the future with the GOP. If they
succeed in amassing more power than they already have, our Democracy is totally done for. They are angry and out for the kill right now that is why they are pushing lies and rumors at any cost. This is an embarrassment and threat to our Country and to our Constitution.

6. They wanted to knock down scurrilous rumors of a constitution.
Remember, Cheney's theory was that the constitution no longer applied.
He was pretty close to making it so. Too damn close. The threat of a police
state and military dictatorship with suspension of elections a frightening
possibility.

Congress appealed the posse comitatus act, BTW, then reinstated it after
Dems retook congress (2004), but Bush stated in signing statement he
would not follow it.

We should not shrink from the most resolute and vicious legal response to these acts.
Both Bush and Cheney are dangerous traitors, with some others, and should
be tried and hanged as such to deter future attempts to overthrow democratic government
in the US.

Obama, alas, doesn't agree. Thus our democratic form of government remains in peril.

5. The Bush admin was also attempting to do this in Louisana after Katrina

as i have posted elsewhere ..

They put the Governor of Louisana in a horrible situation after Katrina , if anyone else remembers, by witholding aid,and wanting her to sign over the rights to bring military into La. therefore ridding Posse Comitatus ..The Governor was given advice by Clinton's Fema Head James Lee Witt ..to protect her state from the power grab the Bush administration was attempting.

If anyone else remembers(?) they were trying to make the governor look bad ..and force her into accepting the Military ..in order for her to get government aid down there..or any aid for that matter..i remember many from my state of Florida..doctors and nurses and boats all being turned back by our government..even Canadian help was turned back..the Bush admin was doing everything they could to destroy Posse Comitatus in Louisana..and do a major power grab...and militarize inside our borders.

Clinton's people stepped up to the plate and advised and helped the LA governor keep it from happening.

that may be what you read on huffington post but its not true. I am assigned to 615th Aviation brigade, 1st Calvary Division and I was at Louisiana after the Hurricane hit. The day after the storm we were in a convoy from fort hood texas to new orleans and by the time we got there 24 hours later, there was already a robust and fully functional army command center to facilitate rescue and relief operations. In essence... we were there on day 3, and other units were there before we were.

11. different subject..Bush was attempting to take the powers from the Governor
Edited on Sat Jul-25-09 11:16 AM by flyarm
and operate the command.. not from the governor.. but from the US MILITARY..

The governor never gave up the command..within her States boundries...therefore she never gave up Posse Comitatus..that the Bush administration was trying to co-erse her into giving up.

The governor maintained her command over military use in her state.

edit to add:

Blanco calls for federal Katrina probe: Ex-director says White House tried to foil governor

By Bill Walsh
January 23, 2007

WASHINGTON -- Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco called on Congress Monday to create a bipartisan commission to investigate whether White House politics played a role in slowing the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

Blanco's request was prompted by comments from former FEMA Director Michael Brown, who told a university class last week that in the days after the 2005 hurricane, the Republican Bush administration plotted to upstage Blanco, a Democrat, by pressuring her to relinquish control of the Louisiana National Guard as troops were mounting rescue efforts and trying to restore order in the area.

"Through Michael Brown's revelation this past weekend, all of us were sickened to hear that while thousands of our citizens were suffering during Hurricane Katrina, political operatives in the White House were playing party politics," Blanco said in a statement. "These individuals based key decisions of emergency response on the gender and party affiliation of elected officials, rather than the urgent needs of our people."

9. That is funny and a good point.
I'd like to hear her interview someone about torture. "So you're saying there's something WRONG with pouring water in a man's nose and slamming his head into a wall?"

19. And again I ask....
Why are Cheney and Bush not under investigation for High Treason and war crimes already?
If not, why are not those covering up for them under investigation for enabling criminals?
