I see Faux News REALLY wants to scare people. Ole' Beck is actually talking shit and trying to get people to NOT use the cash for clunkers program.

I visited it and never saw any page even remotely like the one they discuss. I had to drill down using the DOT links to find out anything about what information the government collects while you visit. The web site explicitly states that they do NOT collect your name, your SSN, or anything about you other that what pages you visit while at the site. They even tell you what technology they use to collect the information that they claim they collect, namely a session only cookie (deletes if you close your browser, and if you "clear private data" from firefox, that zaps it too).

But I never found anything like what they were talking about.

I even visited the Dealer button.

However, authorized dealers may have a totally different access method than consumers. And that may take you to a different set of pages.

This one sounds like it should be on snopes.

The page he has up is not the same as the Dealer Page for the cars.gov site.

So it begs the question, did they fabricate the site and if they didn't, how'd they gain access if they're not a dealer?

Go to http://tinyurl.com/nr75j4 and scroll down to "Click here to complete your registration." Click on that and, when the "privacy act and security statement" pops up, click on "I Agree," just as Glen Beck did. It takes you to a "Prospective Dealer Registration" page which requires you to enter a Tax ID number, a Franchise number, and an authorization code, along with your name, email address, etc. This is the page that he claimed could not load because the site was so overwhelmed by traffic. Note that it does not include any of the statements which Beck read to his audience.

What a coincidence that his real time demonstration worked only up to the web page right before the one that says "the government now owns your computer." But how fortunate for us that he wrote everything down because he knew ahead of time that the scary, evil page would not load. Ladies and gentlemen, the amazing, clairvoyant Glen Beck!

He should do stories about how much info is collected by corporate firms, and how much info is collected in the 'black rooms' at various technical and communication companies.

He probably should look into President Bush's surveillance program also.

And if Glenn Beck is seriously paranoid he'd have spybot installed on his puter. But of course he's more like George Carlin (who I was a big fan of) He doesn't mean a thing what he says. He's just an act. hilarious act, but an act.
