Not to long ago, this state was considered one of the most polluted in the country.

This information needs to get out there. Needs to be regulated. NOW.

is actually greater than all the pollution created by vehicles in the area. However the state is not going to regulate the emissions from gas wells because it's "easier" to further regulate vehicles. In other words, while the gas companies are making billions from gas production, the state is going to tighten the regulation on consumer gasoline(and increase the price) to make up for the extra pollution produced by gas drilling.

How fucked up is that?

Im not arguing that what you see isnt pollution. But one needs to understand IR video first. The sensor is set to "white hot" meaning that the lighter the color, or "whiter" contrast is an object that is hotter than its surroundings. In this video, the "black" smoke seen is actually invisible vapor that is cooler than the surrounding air. It very well may be escaping NG, but one would not know for sure unless it was tested.

So we are not looking at what a regular camera would capture, but something augmented by the filters in a camera?

I am not sure I know what IR is.

It measures the difference of heat between objects. As an example, picture two cubes of ice on a table. Cube A is at 30 F and Cube B is at 10 F. To the naked eye, they both look cold and frozen. When seen through an IR camera, cube A would look "hot" compared to cube B, due to the amount of IR energy (heat) being given off.

IR = infra red.

I have been reading too many environmental reports lately, and IR means something else in them.

While the film looks damning with oily, black, toxic grasses invisible to the naked eye escaping from this site, ALL the IR tells us is that whatever is escaping from that site is cooler than the ambient air. I could even be ambient air that has been cooled by the transfer of compressed natural gas to another tank.

While it "could" contain some or all of the compounds listed in the video, it could also be completely harmless water vapor that is simply cooler than the air.
There is no way to know without actually testing for the hydrocarbons.

This film is propaganda.
Though I fully support more stringent controls (or total elimination) on all toxic emissions, this type of propaganda only hurts our cause.

Natural Gas is in fact much cleaner than coal.
It would be interesting to backtrack the funding for this video.
