They have no idea, because of the social net that FDR set up, what being really up against the wall can be like. They are only one paycheck away from it all their lives but their fall will be softened by unemployment, Social Security, and Medicare not thanks to the GOP of the Depression years.
I await them refusing SS after a lifetime of working at hard, unsatisfying, physically debilitating jobs. I await them refusing Medicare because they have accumulated some money for emergencies and find out that their $10,000 is only $90,000 short of the procedure to keep them alive and they still have to work because of not having a pension or Social Security.
Don't get me started on taking care of parents and grandparents with nothing to offer but their need and dependence.
What we need for too many Americans is a huge dose of the reality that my parents lived in the '30's and most of the world lives now. Satiation makes us not only physically but morally lazy.
