Interesting, glad to see they're going to get recycled. Not sure why they have to seize the engine like that, though.

07 August 2009

The AP's Ted Shaffrey finds out what happens to vehicles that are part of the 'cash for clunkers' program which gives consumers up to a $4,500 rebate for trading in their cards for new, more energy efficient models.

This offends me.

What. A. Waste.

It's pretty obvious that no one is stripping the cars for spare parts.

7. The cars were gonna die some time
Putting them down now will spare us years of crankiness, broken limbs, and incontinence.

Besides, nobody wants parts from a car worth less than $4500

8. Obama signs 'cash-for-clunkers' extension into law

By KEN THOMAS (AP)

WASHINGTON — It's official: Car shoppers are getting more time to trade in their clunkers for cash.

President Barack Obama signed into law Friday morning an extension of the stimulus program that proved so popular it ran out of money.

The Senate voted Thursday to triple the "cash-for-clunkers" fund to $3 billion and extend the program to Labor Day, assuming the new money lasts that long. The law gives owners $3,500 to $4,500 for trading in old cars that use a lot of gas for newer, more efficient vehicles.
