Apparently you have to explain things very slowly to the misinformed masses.... but this is the correct approach....

He is basically telling them to STOP watching the misinformation put out by Fox "news" and disingenuous idiots like Mr. Limbaugh; broadcasting from his basement.

1. Good grief I love him!
Bernie Sanders is the Best.

I have a friend who worked to get shops into the union back in the 50s. He told me this story once: Many people resisted the union because even thought hey would get better benefits, pension plans, health care and higher standardized pay some balked because they didn't feel that the 'colored guy' or 'women' or 'immigrants' should make as much as them. (Clearly these naysayers did not fall into any of those groups...) They felt that it was unfair for those they deemed beneath them to receive the same pay or benefits. Lifting everyone up...even though it benefited them....was unpalatable.

I always thought that was such a sad story and glad that we as a society had moved beyond such thought. But this video shows the same thing is alive and well today. The people complaining about Health care for all aren't complaining about health care. They are complaining that it might help immigrants or poor people on their dime.

I think democrats need to emphasize that many of the uninsured are innocent children. That the public option would be paid for by those who opt into it, like any other insurance program. That the middle and lower class would not be taxed for it, and that it would be there for them if they ever needed it as well.

I read on Harpers earlier this week this little tidbit:

"With Congress in recess, opponents of and advocates for
health-care reform stepped up their media campaigns. Angry
citizens, led by industry front groups, former "Swift Boat
Veterans for Truth" organizers, and Rush Limbaugh, shouted
down Democratic lawmakers at "town hall" meetings across
the country. "Tyranny! Tyranny! Tyranny!" shouted
protesters in Tampa, Florida. "Forty million illegals!"
(Even though the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the
U.S. are specifically excluded from the health-care plan.)
Protesters waving "Don't Tread on Me" flags gathered at
the closed offices of the Service Employees International
Union in St. Louis, claiming that union members had
attacked conservative activist Kenneth Gladney at a recent
health-care forum. Gladney, who does not have health
insurance, took up a collection for the treatment of his
injuries."

Pretty much sums it all up. Conservatives would benefit, but don't want to benefit if it helps
those they deem unworthy or beneath them. Clearly, one could come away from this thinking they just might be a bunch of small minded bigots.

Anyway, we need to do whatever possible to counter the hate and get real healthcare reform passed. For the good of all....even confused gullible conservatives. (And their evil counterparts Randian Libertarians.)
