Everybody hates threats. One of these gun toting conservatives is going to get their face ripped off. You just wait. It won't be hard either. The guns they're wearing at buckled down in the holster. I good fighter can take someone down in a second. That gun won't help at all.

1. I think the gun toting crazies are going to get bolder
They're not a very creative bunch but they do like to imitate one another. And if they see one guy walking around with an uzi strapped to his ass, they're going to say "ooh cool" and do it themselves.

I know this country was born of a desire to protect the minority view, but if that minority view is threats of violence against my president, I have problems with that.

3. What is the point of bringing a gun to an Obama rally?
I think the point is to intimidate other people.

I don't agree with people who do this or laws that condone such outrageous behavior.

4. Ridiculous
I don't give a damn about the 2nd amendment in this situation. With the history this country has of political assassinations there is no way that anybody should be allowed to come close to any president with a gun loaded or not. Where are the Secret Service? This reminds me of the cases where liberals protest and the police arrest them for disturbing the peace but conservatives become obnoxious and the police start mouthing that they have a first amendment right to protest and even protect them from counter demonstrators. There is no way in hell that anybody would have ever been allowed to carry a gun around GW Bush. Just imagine a longhaired guy wearing a Greenpeace t-shirt carrying a semi-automatic rifle being allowed to protest around a Bush rally. They would have kicked him out for the t-shirt alone in abridgment of his 1st amendment rights much less for carrying a gun.

5. Can you imagine a war protester bringing one of these to a Bush event?

11. No, but anti-war protesters aren't that fucking
insecure.

As soon as one sets a gun off ..then what happens? Does that asshole ruin it for everyone else or do they just keep on fucking with us?

6. I was talking to my dad about this today
He was shocked when I told him people were bringing loaded weapons to the rallies. I made a comment about much of the right wing hatred re healthcare not being rooted in real issues, to which he countered that I shouldn't be such an intellectual snob (btw, if you knew how intellectually snobby my father was, you would laugh at this), so I brought up the guns at the Obama rallies as an example of what I was talking about. He hadn't heard anything about it. He said he thought that guns weren't allowed near the president; said they'd never been allowed. That struck me as really odd.

Does anyone else know the history of guns around Presidents?

7. They are trying to scare people
These gun-totting morons are trying to scare people and make them stay home. How pathetic. This SOB has no right marching through a pro-health care rally with an assault rifle.

9. My mom and I were talking about this yesterday and my mom
said that they're trying to provoke a race war. She said that if the gun-toting racists shoot and kill or even shoot at President Obama, the race war will be on between racists and black street gangs, who are as well-armed with assault and automatic weapons as white racists.

The whole Obama is going to take away our guns/2nd Amendmeent rights thing instigated by the repugs was designed to arm white racists for what they hope is the coming race war.

Besides, a lot of whites would rather have a lying, drunken, coked out, incompetent white man driving them to the poor house than a black, intelligent, compassionate, well-educated man lifting them to prosperity.

Tim Wise has a diary up over on dKos about the fat a** drug addict that calls these people what they are - staunch racists who resent having a black man as POTUS.

12. I think it was a calculated move to distract the media, and it worked (as is evidenced here).
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 09:59 PM by benEzra
As I mentioned in the other thread, I think it was a calculated move to stir up the media and generate publicity. He succeeded, got himself on some talk shows, got his picture in the national news, probably got a few of his political opponents to say dumb things.

More significantly, he got the media to largely ignore what Obama was saying at the event and instead focus on the ZOMG THAT SCAWWY GUN HAS A PROTRUDING HANDGRIP!!!! That's probably exactly what the guy was after, and plenty of Dems are playing right into it.

FWIW, the guy with the rifle was black, not white.

13. Yep, freaking out over this is a bad play
just confirms to people listening that Democrats are scared of guns and want to take their guns away.

Not the message you want to put out there when you're trying to push a controversial policy. A good way to turn neutrals into opponents.
