4. Looks like he is. Chill out. How many people like him actually have the conscience and come
forward and blow the whistle on the insurance industry? Very few.

I honor Mr. Potter for taking his brave stand. I think instead your anger belongs with those who perpetuate the greedy health insurance profiteers.

8. I don't "chill" for scum, nor for you clown. Now listen up...
Your "chill" advice is a condescending, disrespectful, and personal
criticism prohibited by rule #3 of this forum. Since you have over
500 posts you KNEW that. Attack public figures, make
generalized commentary, do not attack members. This comment is in
response to your comment.

Your ascribing me as "angry" is argumentative, disrespectful, and
improper personal criticism not permitted by rule #3 of this forum,
not to mention probably projection. Please keep your personal opinions
concerning other posters motives or mental states in close check in
future or I will personally invite you to an unmoderated group where I
will happily demonstrate to your edification what it feels like to have
your gigantic head shoved up your tiny half-witted ass where your brains appear
to reside. This comment is in response to your personal comment.

On the merits,

Potter WAS one of the animals who constructed the monster...
that kills , maimes, degrades, and enslaves other human beings.

A man that low can only TRY to step up in atonement,
but he is not honored, he is not a hero, his is
a position of penitent who MAY someday become a
human being again.

That he is prepared to step up now is worthy of note,
but frankly, we know all this shit he is telling us,
and before I give one whit of honor to him I first want to know
the motives behind his sudden conversion after so LONG and
profitable a career of evil.

If you want an example of a man who HAS, in my opinion,
succeeded, after thirty years, for a brief but grave failing,
I give you John Dean, former counsel to president Nixon, who's
atonement began at Watergate hearing. Him I now honor. He now stands
tall again. Potter has a million miles to go. If he makes the journey,
he may yet win honor from me.

As for you, you can try to "chill" me with a sincere apology and a more
considered response ON THE MERITS. I'll be watching for your
manner of reply.

10. These kind of comments are counter productive. Expressing blame and anger
and judging people are part of the problem. I don't really want your opinion, opinions are like assholes...
everybody has one. Potter is becoming part of the solution. You don't know what goes on in his mind,
how he feels, or any such thing. Give the man his due. He's doing the right thing. I'd rather have his
contrition then your judgmental rant

13. Thus so you felt compelled to expose your own asshole (opinion)?
A person such as yourself expressing that someone else's opinion is "counter-productive"
may make you feel self-important, but it really just indicates
the voices in your head have taken possession of your critical thinking and are ordering
you around. The voices are illusion, a defect in thinking. You should quiet them.

Ascribing my post to another poster as a "judgmental rant" , IMO, violates
the rules of the forum, rules specifically created to protect the forum
from flame wars (of a certain kind). Such action could call for moderator warning or, in
repeated or serious cases a call for your removal from the board. You should give
such things up if you wish to remain.

Here's the deal. This is a progressive board. Here we are
permitted, within certain bounds, to express personal opinions.
That is what this board is for. That's why progressives post here.
If you don't want someone's opinion, don't read their posts. Simple.
I don't need to know if you don't read my posts, or don't want my opinion,
just don't make such comments, unless you are looking for further reason to
get removed. Plenty else to read here besides me. Plenty other posters do
read my posts.

New posters may not realize this, but now that you have reminded of what you should have known
and can check the rules yourself, perhaps your next reply may decide what appends next.
If you are back from probation from prior events, your prospects here could be dimming.
There are other boards without such civility rules, but DU makes no pretext that
this is an moderated board, or that such rules are not being enforced.

I further remind that an opinions may take many forms. They may take the form of criticism or
praise of public figures, or policies, or in limited context on the comments made.
But in the latter case you are obliged to proceed with care, for
what one should not do, what the board founders deliberately constructed the
rules to prevent, is the personal attack of DU members based upon their
expressed opinions. The board is intended to allow and protect relatively free expression of
liberal and progressive views.

People occasionally, in the heat of passion, sometimes regress on the civility rules. There
is reason to be harsh for those who deliberately violate them, but excusing of those experiencing
a momentary, and regretted lapse. So tell me, which are you?

7. Ambinder: White House “Won’t Buckle” To Liberal Demands For Public Plan

Ambinder: White House “Won’t Buckle” To Liberal Demands For Public Plan
By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday August 19, 2009 2:33 pm

http://campaignsilo.firedoglake.com/2009/08/19/ambinder-white-house-wont-buckle-to-liberal-demands-for-public-plan/

I know people are reluctant to believe that the President has no plans to include a public option in his health care bill, but according to Marc Ambinder, that is indeed the truth:

The White House and Senate Democrats won't buckle to demands from liberals that they revise their health care strategy, officials said today.

Liberals are demanding the inclusion of a public plan. The White House won't "revise" their strategy to accommodate them.

Glenzilla:

The attempt to attract GOP support was the pretext which Democrats used to compromise continuously and water down the bill. But -- given the impossibility of achieving that goal -- isn't it fairly obvious that a desire for GOP support wasn't really the reason the Democrats were constantly watering down their own bill? Given the White House's central role in negotiating a secret deal with the pharmaceutical industry, its betrayal of Obama's clear promise to conduct negotiations out in the open (on C-SPAN no less), Rahm's protection of Blue Dogs and accompanying attacks on progressives, and the complete lack of any pressure exerted on allegedly obstructionists "centrists," it seems rather clear that the bill has been watered down, and the "public option" jettisoned, because that's the bill they want -- this was the plan all along.

Max Baucus (who is negotiating the White House's bill) today reaffirmed his commitment to have a "bipartisan" bill. Since Republicans will never sign off on a public plan, that's not-so-subtle code for "no public plan." And any time anyone says that, including President Obama, that is in fact what they're saying.

11. If health care reform requires American to pay more for health care,
then Democrats will never be elected again. The only way that costs can be sufficiently reduced is to have single payer. We clearly don't have the votes for that, so we have to settle for the public option. The public option will cost less than the Baucus plan which would provide either for mandatory subscriptions to health insurance company plans or the choice of a co-op. Co-ops are a bogus substitute for a public plan. They will not attract enough subscribers nor be inexpensive and well managed enough to be a meaningful choice.

For me, it's public option or no plan. We are better off with no plan than with a plan lacking a public option.
