John Velleco, chief lobbyist for Gun Owners Of America, said on Hardball With Chris Matthews today that he would be 'fine' with the entire audience at a presidential event being armed with guns.

"If it's legal to carry guns in that location, absolutely," he told Matthews, who pressed him on the issue. "It would be fine with you if everyone comes in with a gun? They should be allowed to sit in the first row with a gun?" the MSNBC host asked. Velleco responded that gun-owners in the U.S. are "the most law-abiding citizens."

When Matthews asked how close armed people should be allowed to get to the President, the gun rights advocate said "as close as the Secret Service will allow." Velleco also does not think the federal ban on assault weapons should be renewed.

Velleco is the Director of Federal Affairs for Gun Owners of America, a gun rights organization with over 300,000 members.

2. My husband was listening to that while reading his American rifelman
magazine. After about 5 mins, he looked up & said "Who the hell is that AH?" I told him he was som big gig with the NRA. He said he's CRAZY! My husband bought a lifetime membership in the NRA over 40 years ago so he still gets the magazine, but as much as he loves his guns and his right to own them. he thinks the NRA has gone off the deep edge!

What an idiot. No wonder gun owners have such a poor reputation.

Does he also think it would have been okay to take the to Bush's appearances? To give the snipers something to do, I suppose.

11. #1, you don't have to yell. #2. He wasn't the only one. Many folks have been packing weapons...
..at Obama events.

They're idiots and the result will be, thank God and to their dismay, legislation restricting guns around the President.

Do you agree that would be a good thing?

9. This is such a load of horseshit
you can't carry a gun onto a plane, you can't take a gun into a public school, you can't take guns into a theme park, so why the hell should people who hate the President be allowed to be armed at Presidential events? It would NEVER have been allowed at a BushCo event, period. I just don't know why the Secret Service is allow this BS.

10. Awesome job by Tweety. I said it years ago, he's a smart man and a friend to
right-thinking people.

Yeah, you can find clips where he's saying things that make progressive dems cringe, but they are far outweighed by stuff like this.

14. Every day that passes and nothing happens...
...I'm thankful. However, as these lunatics get bolder, the chances of something bad happening or someone getting killed rise. It will happen at some point, and what will this fuckhead say then? I hope the new health care programme covers penis implants and enlargements, so that these guys won't feel the need to pack heat everywhere and at all times.
