In todays media, its almost impossible to not catch the Republican Party in self-destruction mode, from birther conspiracy theorist, to wacky town hall teabagger crowds. The Democratic leadership is starting to learn, that while the GOP is burning itself down, it's wise to just sit back and be silent. Mike Papantonio explains how we should let the Orly Taitz', Glenn Beck's and Sarah Palin's just keep talking the GOP into irrelevance.

2. The Dem Leadership should take his advice and
let the idiots define the Repugnant party. I especially love his idea of scheduling more Town Hall meetings so that the wacko, racist, and underinformed (in other words Republicans) will come out and give everyone a show that perfectly displays the lunatic fringe that has become their party.

3. I would be very wary about trusting silence as an effective rebuttal.

4. This is nothing new, it's the same strategy Congressional Democrats used throughout the Bush years
They gave the GOP everything they wanted(*) and being what they are, the GOP eventually fucked themselves over. Unfortunately victory came with a price. Poor Harry Reid, if only he still had the Republicans to kick around now.

5. I disagree
Faux “News” has double the viewers of CNN and MSN…there are plenty of loons out there talking BS egging on other loons. If someone doesn’t hold a mirror to the madness, we take the chance of no one actually seeing the madness.

7. Did you watch the video
Let Faux rant! I love that they have high ratings. The higher their ratings the lower the GOP approval ratings and the higher the Democrats ratings.

Watch the video and take his advice. Let the GOP implode. Let the loons show America the real face of the GOP!

6. Needs to be dealt with
I don't know if I agree with this. Insane ideas need to be reputed and silenced. For example, this Birthers business needs to be matched with rationality.

the laughter strategy works well too. I'm laughing my ass off at most of what I'm hearing. And how can I not?

TO let this thing spin out of control is to invite anarchy into the system. These should be teaching moments, for those who are not educated enough, to be shown why what they say is totally ridiculous.

Some people don't know the law, the Bill of Rights, or whats in the Constitution. Some people who are sitting on the fence don't even know what the Democrats represent, nor what a liberal idea is.

The Republican fringe are trying to stir up trouble. Trying to force people into thinking its okay to go out and shoot someone because they don't happen to believe in the same things. To sit silently by is not the thing to do.

We sat silently by while Bush stole an election. Look where that got us!!!!!

10. I don't know about this. Ridicule is so incredibly powerful, as Jon Stewart, Stephanie Miller,
Bill Maher, etc. have shown.

There's something to be said about giving them enough rope in which to hang themselves, but at what point does their lunacy take hold and become too entrenched?

11. Relative silence, not absolute silence.
We need to take the approach demonstrated in the OP -- hold up the words they are saying as a clear demonstration of who they are.

12. I think that this only works some of the time. The hard part is
knowing when to stay silent and when to speak out.
