I can appreciate that some of you don't care for Malloy. I personally prefer Hartmann over anybody else, but Mike's heart is in the right place, and although he'll get the details wrong occasionally, or attribute a quote to the wrong person, he does speak out a sincere disgust with our system and can motivate to get active.

1. Wow this is really way out

I don't think Haggard ever advocated death to gays did he?

2. I don't know either, but...
...I'm sure he went on about sin and God's punishment for it. My comparison has more to do with Haggard being caught doing meth and bonking a male prostitute. This Rev. Anderson is a perfect example of reaction formation. One cannot carry around that much hatred and irrationality without having some deep-seated pathologies.

3. This tool "preacher" is more likely the next Phelps than the next Haggard
Yeah, Ted preached that homosexuality was a "sin" (in between his trips to the male prostitutes and meth dealers)but I don't ever remember him suggesting the "death penalty" for being gay.

4. Phelps is another self-loathing homosexual, like Limbaugh or Craig.
It's sad what homophobia can do to a person.

6. Is there some reason that they had to play so much of this to make the point?
It's kind of like making someone read an entire issue of Das Sturmer to make the point that the Nazis were anti-semetic.

I regret not shutting it down after listening for two minutes.

18. I used to think so as well.
What with all the screaming that goes on occasionally on his show, but, hell, he's genuinely angry and I can appreciate that. Like I said in another post, he may get little details wrong from time to time (which I can excuse him for, considering they are made at the 'height of the fighting'), but his heart is definitely in the right place. Believe it or not, I think some righteous anger from our representatives could do us, the party, and the country a load of good.

11. Anyone want to guess the real story behind this?
Here's this same preacher telling an elaborate story about getting beaten up by border patrol - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUzd7G875Hc.

Oop, more: footage of the actual stop - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJF5cUWXA_A&feature=channel_page. I'm guessing he had run a giant load of meth across the border recently.

12. Malloy is one of the best
Malloy & Hartmann are my favorites. I couldn't pick between them, they are not the same. Both are the best in their own style.

Liberals who dislike Mike Malloy usually do so because he'll tell an uncomfortable truth that they don't want to hear instead of just being a blind partisan hack. And that's why I like him.

25. Malloy and Hartmann,
long may they wave. Hartmann seems pretty well established, but I anguish for Malloy who has even a greater confrontational style. It's reassuring to know from DU that Malloy has a large following.

17. Yes....he's blunt. But he's 99% of the time...RIGHT ON!
The first time I listened to Mike on the radio, I was a little worried about just how emotional and blunt he could be.

Once you get past that, I realized that this is one "tell it like it is" guy. I respect him whole heartedly. Lots of passion, and lots of validity to what he says. He backs it up with fact....not bull shit like so many other radio hosts.

19. I agree... often times, not always, guys like this guy here? Gay. well, closeted self hater!
you don't get to be called "Gay" until you stop self hating...

his border patrol video that many of us saw months back is amazingly arrogant and pompous - he deserved it, lol... what a nutty bastard he is...

and seriously, God help him! sick bastard! asking for us Gay folks deaths, he will incur the wrath of his own judgment and hate of others.... how pathetic.

21. Sad that these people hate themselves. What a waste of their lives.

I like that. I don't know the exact etymology of the term "gay" (something to research afterward). I do remember the first time I heard it. It was in an episode of "Alice" sometime in the 70s, when Alice's friend, Flo, had the hots for a football player, who had to gently let her down in the end because he was gay. As for our 'friend', the Rev. Anderson, the amount of hatred in his sermon seems to indicate that he has a problem with himself. Although, they are not aware of it, that type of language points toward a serious pathology and I'm going with self-loathing.

While living in Germany, I was exposed to so many wonderful, eye-opening things. I don't know if you know Rosa von Praunheim's movie "It Is Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Society in Which He Lives" (Nicht der Homosexuelle ist pervers, sondern die Situation, in der er lebt, 1971), but I highly recommend it. Actually, more for the Heteros out there, who have problems with gays. I grew up in Dixie and believed throughout my youth that homosexuals are somehow defective. I'm so happy to be beyond that. Hell, some of my best friends are gay! ;-)

27. Don't misunderstand me here when I say this, but...
...I long for the day when you won't have to thank me for the way I feel. I long for the day when this country finally grows up and accepts love in all its forms. Perhaps then we won't be so keen on killing everything we don't understand.

20. Every time I listen to Malloy
I learn a lot. He has a tremendous command of history, facts and language. I saw him and Scott Ritter in Phoenix about a year and a half ago - big crowd, but you would have heard a pin drop in the audience. They were both great - their styles bounced easily back and forth between them. Thinking back, he helped keep me sane during the Bush years.

23. What a sad excuse for a human, let alone an alleged "spiritual leader"
It would almost be funny if it weren't so serious.

This man definitely has a self-loathing that he cannot deal with. He is not unlike Phelps and his ilk. They attempt to deal with their own "demons" by attacking those whose characteristics they are attempting to suppress.

As a sodomite...well I guess he has called me out on that one...I didn't realize I was recruiting. I have never had any intimate contact with anyone who wasn't of majority age so I must be an exception to the rule. I have no interest in recruiting anyone for anything. First of all you can't recruit someone to change their sexual orientation. There is a joke in the gay community that the only difference between a straight man and a gay man is a 6 pack of beer. Nothing could be further from the truth. I can no more convert a heterosexual than I can be converted to be a homosexual.

This hate-filled man makes one astute observation... there are more of them each day. Now empirically we know that somewhere between 3 and 8 % of the population is exclusively homosexual. That number varies a bit but most studies have come to similar conclusions. So there are likely no more LGBT persons today than there were yesterday. But we are more visible. We are no longer hiding. As LGBT youth find loving and supportive homes, schools and communities, they no longer suppress who they are.

I grew up in the 70s before the real advances in LGBT civil rights. But I had a family who accepted me and who supported me. I have never faced overt discrimination in my family, work or other aspects of my life. I am lucky in that regard. But I know many who were kicked out of their families for religious reasons.

That's why this type of hatred is so damaging. We have all seen the young children at the Phelps' rallies holding signs saying God hates Fags, etc. Can you imagine what type of adults these kids will turn out to be? What if one of them is actually gay or lesbian? Can you imagine the type of self-loathing? Can you spell suicide?

What if this pastor had a church full of people of all ages? This teaches hatred and incites violence especially with his invocation of capital punishment. What about the children in that congregation? What about members who are themselves LGBT and buy into this self-loathing?

I pray for him and for his congregation for they have surely wandered far afield from the message of the New Testament which is Love They Neighbor as Thyself. Even if you are an Atheist, Agnostic or non-religious person you can't disagree this is a wonderful simple principle to live by.
