North Carolina’s “Puppy Mill” Bill Delayed Until 2010

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Thank You for Contacting Your State Legislators!

Senate Bill 460 has been removed from the agenda and will not be voted on by the North Carolina legislature this year.

S 460 -- the anti-dog breeder, anti-hunting bill promoted by the radical Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) -- was briefly heard in the House Finance Committee on Monday, but was pulled from the calendar after supporters of the legislation realized they did not have the votes. The negative impact of this bill would not only directly affect hunters, but dog lovers all across North Carolina, as evidenced by the large coalition of organizations that stood up in opposition. Groups that came out in opposition to S 460 included the Farm Bureau, the Pork Council, the American Kennel Club, the American Veterinarian Medical Association, the North Carolina Veterinarian Medical Association, as well as numerous dog groups from all over the state.

However, this bill is far from being dead and will remain alive for consideration during next year's short session, which starts in May. Please be sure to continue to check your e-mail and www.nraila.org for updates.
