Nice message. His outreach to Muslims is really making American Muslims feel more accepted and integrated in society. That in itself can do more good than billions of wasted $$$ on wars and failed policies.

Well done Mr. Prez!

9. go peddle your message of bigotry and hate somewhere else!!
Edited on Sat Aug-22-09 01:13 AM by Douglas Carpenter
there are plenty of sites that love to stir up ethno-religious hatred

I have also seen Americans cheer as bombs rained down upon Middle East cities.

What kind of future will the world have if people reject President Obama's message of reconciliation and instead embrace a message of endless violence, conflict and hatred?

Nothing good comes out of demonizing an entire people.

BTW: I have lived half my life in the Islamic world. The are not such bad people and they certainly are not beast - anymore than Americans or anyone else.

15. Nope.
No one is supporting him. I actually think it was extremely stupid to release the guy. He should have died in prison. Scotland should really be embarrassed for what they did. That's my opinion. The only diversion from that opinion you will get on this board is from those who feel he was never guilty in the first place. Fair enough, but I am not from that camp.

But how you relate the release of this guy to Obama's Ramadan message is simply indicative of your stupidity. Therefore, we are making silly equivalencies to mock you. Since you are so dumb, you won't get it.

The difference between an ignoramus like you and sane people like most of us on this board is this. We know that there are many pieces of shit in this world who have done horrors. We hate those people, criticize their actions, and don't condone them.

At the same time though, we know that America is not blameless and has had its share of dishonorable moments, and we also hate those actions, criticize the people who were responsible for them, and don't condone them. Just because we're American doesn't mean everything we do is flawless. Where we make mistakes (e.g. arming Mujahideen that eventually led to Al-Qaeda, slavery, raping villagers, humiliating prisoners, Japanese internment), we need to admit that and learn from it.

And, we have higher expectations from America because we are the leaders of the free world. Stooping to another person's level seems to be the moral justification of neocon policies, but we know America can do better. Just because some Iraqi thugs have been horrible to our soldiers doesn't mean that our soldiers should humiliate them by electrocuting their genitals. We expect better from Americans, we don't lower the bar just because others have.

Now go back and catch up with Glenn Beck on DVR. He might warn you of new FEMA concentration camps in your neighborhood that you need to attack.

In Ramadan, the best dates in Egypt are 'Obama'

By HADEEL AL-SHALCHI (AP) – 21 hours ago

CAIRO — For the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Egyptian fruit sellers have named their best dates of the year after President Barack Obama in a sweet tribute to the American leader for his outreach to the Muslim world.

Dates are a traditional food for Ramadan — which begins Saturday in most of the Islamic world — since the Prophet Muhammad is said to have used them to break the month's sunrise-to-sunset fast each evening.

In Egypt, shops have created a new tradition of naming their best and worst dates to catch attention and boost sales — giving a little reflection of the political mood.

Obama's vault to the top of the Egyptian date-scale comes after he delivered a landmark address in Cairo in June, saying he wants to improve American ties with Muslims around the world. Those ties were deeply strained under his predecessor, George W. Bush, who was widely resented in the Arab world — and whose name was given to the worst quality dates in Egypt in past Ramadans.
