Video of Rep. Weiner explaining why we don't need Insurance Companies to Joe Scarborough. He is so good!! Credit goes to Joe for giving him so much time to clear up the confusion that has permeated this debate.

Rep. Weiner asked Joe 'why do we get prescriptions from Walmart for so little money'? He explains that they get that deal because they are so big. 'Who is bigger than Walmart?' he asks. 'We are'! So why don't we get the same deal? Because, he says, we let the Insurance Companies negotiate for us and they do not have the incentive to get a bargain that we ourselves would.

Just depends who you want to handle the payments. An organization with 4% overhead (medicare) or private insurance companies that take 30% out of the system.

Wonderfully simple and effective presentation by Rep. Weiner. And the only thing Schmoe can come up with with is, "Why do you hate private enterprise?" Only a corrupt political system would have a hard time resolving this "problem."

there, the comparison of the overhead between Medicare and Priv. Ins. I think Joe was more shocked by how simple Weiner made it than convinced to change his mind. In fact he said that, that while he hadn't changed his mind (yet) he was astonished by how Weiner was able to explain it all so simply, compared to the confusion on both sides, the screaming etc. so far.

And while Joe may not have changed his mind, it doesn't matter because he gave Weiner over ten media minutes to influence the viewing audience.

If only Obama had gone for Single Payer while he had the momentum. He could have had people like Weiner out there explaining it and destroying any argument from the right. But, he didn't and I wonder why as I feel certain the time was never better nor will be, than now to get this done and had he been the one to do it, he would have gone down in history as one of the great presidents. Is keeping the Insurance Industry up and running important enough to squander a historical moment like this?
