"I have to sacrifice me." That is the way one Charleston, SC area resident describes her inability to pay for health care insurance. This documentary short by Edward Faircloth explores the real life experiences of Charleston residents, those who have adequate insurance and those who don't.

1. Someone from every county of every state should be making these documentaries!
It's not just one county in S.C. having problems like this, the stories are the same everywhere in this country. And they dare to keep telling us we're the greatest nation in the world. Yeah, right!

9. I couldn't agree more!
South Carolina is a rough state to live in, if you're a Democrat.

11. DeMint has to be schizophrenic
I've heard a lot from him lately, and rarely has anyone seemed so utterly detached from reality. :silly:

7. 'Land of the Free'
Well, I don't feel very free when I am shackled to my medical debt. It is crazy to me that a minor, congenital back defect keeps me from obtaining my own policy. Even BCBS won't cover me and I paid them for YEARS already, with my condition, and they dropped me.

Land of the Free. My ass. My credit score has dropped because I was unable to meet the monthly payment schedule that was demanded of me for my MRI. I thought I could pay what I could afford. They didn't accept my offer and reported me to all three credit bureaus.

Sad. Shameful. Disappointing.

As I sit here I weep for my family's future. I was dropped and my daughter was dropped with me. She has been diagnosed with an eye condition and now we are both in trouble. How can someone that has only been on the Earth for three years be unaccepted by insurance companies.

Time to go call my crap-ass Senator...ol' David Vitter. What a piece of shit.

14. I'm glad you're calling
Vitter. Don't forget your other senator and your congressperson. Also contact the White House. I contacted all 4 of my "government employees" on Friday. Keep bombarding them, everyone.

I went without insurance for quite a few years. When I became ill and lost a lot of time from work, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Wound up having to file bankruptcy. I told all my "government employees" my story. I also told them how my husband would probably be dead now if it weren't for the VA and the excellent care he received there. It was such a relief to turn 65 and get Medicare. Everyone should have that security, but even that is not enough, without dental care.

12. I am a full time nurse without health insurance
Our company dropped it last year because of costs. I have been depending on our Congress to do something about it this year. If they don't, some other nurse will have to take care of my developmentally disabled clients because I will have to find another job with health insurance.

health care via youtube. Especially ones that relate to rural life to bring the message home. That the problems are the same wherever a person is in the US. It's only take going door to door a person would soon have a whole movies worth of stories. And flood youtube with examples that show the necessities for reform.

16. Great video. i wish some of these idiots yelling that "these people just need to get a job"
would watch this. How can these congressman and senators, who are against a public option or single payer, live with themselves and to continue to pass on lies. Their supposed to be educated. Everyone deserves health care.

19. Thank you!
The video was made at the June 27th OFA Day of Service. Ed offered to capture health stories at two of the Charleston-area events. He did a great job.
