...I would certainly not want to stand in the way of the proud feeling of accomplishment that comes with unreccommending one of my threads, an accomplishment documented so eloquently and so exclusively in all capital letters.

This is a Web Site devoted to political discussion, and Beck / Malkin are part of the current discussion. People who don't like that can put me on ignore (which I strongly encourage people to do, rather than attempt to come after a piece of my ass, and that's what I did with the proud caps lock poster, rather than respond and indulge in some kind of fourth-grade flame war...things are much more peaceful that way), OR they can hide the thread, OR they can alert the mods (and trust me, I don't think the mods will kill or lock a thread in which I post a clip of Beck and Malkin looking like a couple of idiots and go to great lengths to CALL them a couple of idiots, but hey...it's worth a roll of the dice for someone who likes to believe that they can make the rules).

But as long as I'm posting within the published guidelines of DU, I don't take suggestions from people who scream "I don't want to see that."

...what's appropriate at DU? This is a classic example of kill the messenger. I personally never use the unrec function and probably never will unless some Freeper posts something blatantly insipid, but that's just me. Just because I don't like an OP, doesn't mean it couldn't interest someone else, and some may even be informative. It's important that we keep an eye on these nutjobs and Glenn Beck is the King of the Nutjobs currently. The ensuing debate thread could give some of us important information and methods of defusing the rightwing crap, but if it sinks into oblivion because some self-appointed watchdog gets his/her panties in a twist, we'll never have that opportunity, will we?

I wasn't "killing the messenger". How would it look if i recommended this video? Would I be supporting the words of Malkin and Beck? That is the quandary we have here- why even HAVE an UN rec if not to show displeasure with a post? I watched up to the point where Beck introduced Malkin and turned it off thinking "I'd be nuts to recommend this but how do i make a point if i do nothing?"

One sees this a lot on YouTube, for example Think Progress, which is hardly rightwing, gets a lot of their videos voted down because someone equates the content with the agenda of the channel, which is a shame, because they document many things that the wingnuts would prefer to forget. Imagine the infamous Macaca video being voted into oblivion.



My solution is to rant about the contents or offer counterarguments on the board. I learn more that way and I enjoy the discussions. I'm speaking only for myself here, though. I don't own a TV, and if I did, I wouldn't watch Fox so I'm glad that someone offers videos like these, which give me a distilled version of their venom. It really does help me to prepare my arguments against the nonsense. I have some crazy family members, you see.... :-)

the country needs some change, a lot more than what we're getting. Bush f****d up this country so badly, it would be nice to just undo everything he messed up in 8 years.

I'm as liberal as you can be but I am also practical. I am pissed at some liberals whining about how Obama isn't pushing for enough change. He has to be EVERYONES president afterall and this is not a dictatorship. If it was Bush/Cheney would have turned the US into a police state.

People are just not patient enough. He will bring very big changes but it can't happen overnight. Also, he still has 40 hard reich wing douche bags to deal with in the Senate plus the blue dogs. You got to get them the hell out of there before he can truly bring progressive change.

I've been saying pretty much the same thing for months. There are many "liberals" who expected to see Obama's platform implemented by January 21 this year! They also expect an immediate 180 degree turnaround with how we treat people in this country. I guess that's a holdover from the eight years of semi-dictatorship/one-sided government we've had. Maybe they think that's the way it has to be.

Obama has a four-year term, plenty of time to accomplish what he was elected to do. I think he's done more in a mere 6-8 months than any president in my lifetime (that's more than 60 years)

...but I'm not sure of the details. Now, in a Google search "glenn beck suspended", I don't see a credible source of the information, just speculation and the fact that he may have "disappeared" on Friday. So, maybe I was premature with my good news. We'll have to see.

The story out of Faux last I heard was it is simply pre-arranged time off/vacation. I think Beck has some public appearances scheduled and did for some time. Whether it really is or not who knows but they will no doubt stick with that story! This is the time of year when all the politicians and the people who follow/critisize them take their vacations so I don't think there is much more to it.

There must be some sort of inter-office bet to see who can use "suspended" the most in one article.

The voting electorate is growing exponentially Democratic or progressive despite President Obama's approval that ain't about to change. OK I know some choose Liberal and say progressive is a faux word I've adopted it more because that's where I'd like things to move and people can be liberal in their approach or whatever as long as we're moving forward. It's no big issue freedom of choice in how we choose to define ourselves, The word Liberal has just as strong a meaning I just choose to define myself progressive. I just don't feel I completely always fit in the term Liberal, but we're all generally on the same page here really.

Obama still has VERY high approval historically. Given the incredible mess he inherited and the big changes he is proposing his approval is actually astronomically high. Much higher than other Prez's that didn't inherit huge problems and didn't try enact big change.

The other thing is there is a lot of spin on the interpretation of the polls. The current fad is to talk about how Obama's numbers are dropping. But nobody is talking about what that is relative to. It is not Relative to Republikkkan leadership because there is NONE! It is not relative to Republikkkan numbers which have NOT increased! A lot of the drop is in Obama's base who are impatient and expected gay marriages and healthcare for all Jan21. That base is NOT in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM going to the right! Far from it. If anything they are going farther to the left. So there is no reason for concern on the left and no reason for rejoice on the right. The left will come around as things slowly go their way legislatively and the right....well they are all angry old white people with poor diets so they will be pushing up daisies soon enough.

A while ago I was at a dinner with repubs having a discussion about water conservation. If the town said we couldn't water our lawns, or wash our cars, due to lack of water, I asked the repub how he would react. The repub said "screw it, I would do everything like I always do - no one tells me what I can or cannot do." What a moron! They just don't get it. I guess Jesus will come before we run out of oil and water.
