An inspirational video for the upcoming Sea Shepherd Campaign (Dec 2009) to travel to Antarctic Whale Sanctuary (established by Australia), to protect whales from killed illegally by Japanese Whaling Company.

Whale hunting is illegal for Australians, but most countries, including the U.S. and Japan, do not recognize Australian claims.

which is why Japan will not take SS to court, because they would lose. Japan are the criminals. But if a country acts criminally, only another country has the muscle to stop them. So activism in this case is upholding the law.

Here is a link which discusses some of the legal issues and mentions various countries which still practice whaling, such as the U.S., Norway, and Iceland, yet the Japanese are always targeted. I wonder why.

Aus. declared a sanctuary but its not recognized internationally. The whalers of ALL nations (not just Japan) are staying inside the rules of the IWC.

I too am somewhat surprised that the Japanese government has not stepped in. To the contrary it seems to be restraining the whalers from returning tit for tat against Watson and not pursing the legal opportunities available to them.

This last season when Watson thought the tables were turned he shot at the smaller vessels with flares and rocket powered rescue lines. How dare the whalers even appear to think about doing to him what he wanted to do to them. In his world, only he can take aggressive action and defense techniques like nets are unthinkable. Have to wonder what would happen if the whalers returned like for like. A harpoon in the steering gear would make for a long tow home for the Steve Irwin.

The next season is coming in December. Have to wonder what both sides will do then.

Russian crews have always had reputation for ruthlessness. Not sure it would take government action. Any protests would be ignored.

I teared up a little. I have always loved that song...and named my Australian shepherd, waltzing matilda (I call her mattie). She came right over and stared at the computer when I played this...ha! I think she was responding to the whale sounds though..and not the song. It was ispirational video.

..instead of running their diesel engines untold thousands of miles each year.

I think it has more to do with ego and getting dollars from gullible people.

The PR from fawning the cinematography has helped considerably. When he loses a crewman, all that will be for naught and the PR machines will turn on him. Once he loses his vessel registration it will not be long before the SSCS fleet is in breakers dock and Watson becomes a fixture on the speakers circuit.
