I was looking at what the latest outrage was about over at freeper-ville, and I found this posted there.

1. Nope, that behavior is not helpful. He should have waited for a turn at the mic.

Sure, the people taking the video seem ugly, but the speaker was being a disruptor.

That's a Tea Bagger tactic, and only makes the other side think they are right.

Not helpful.

I would have preferred if he had gone up to the mic as well.

I see no reason why they shouldn't get a taste of their own medicine. They didn't seem to take to it to well though.

But it really doesn't help. He'd have been 10 times as effective if he'd gone to the mike and opened with a modest proposal to "ban socialized fire protection . . ." and then gone into his rant in a civil manner. Sure he would have been shouted down by that audience of no-thumbers, but the point would have been made and the clip would have been useful.

Democracy really, really *does* require a respect for civilized debate, and it's no weakness to insist on it.
