that the lobbyists and the Corporations have on the Government (Republic or Democrat).

36. I AGREE
President Obama needs to make public financed elections a
first term goal as well as SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE. With
those two Democratic goals accomplished, he can tell corporate
Democrats, like Rahm Emanuael to "sit down and STFU."

He's been around the block more than a few times. And he worked in the government when they actually stood for the people.

When he speaks, people should listen. He knows what he's talking about.

:hi:

"Freepers": pejorative for members of "Free Republic" forum; and by extension any who hold those "values". We also have lurkers and troll behavior that pops up at DU from time to time when they attempt to infiltrate. Quite a lot of fun when one drops his mask and is pounced upon en masse. (Although it's against DU rules, new members with low post counts are often suspected of freeper under the radar.)

This will help:

in our current mainstream media that has been hijacked by fear mongers and propagandists who feed on dividing the country between left and right, conservatives and liberals, etc etc.

We should support principles and not parties or leaders if we want "real change".

37. CAN YOU IMAGINE
Bill Moyers as the head of the FCC? He deserves that position
more than any other person could. Appointments like that are
"Change I can believe in." Either Bill Moyers or Amy
Goodman. Our media would become excellent almost immediately.
Our Education and information levels would be unequaled. It
should make everyone of us furious that we allow politicians
to sell their souls for money. Almost Every politician on the
National scene starts out as maybe, upper middle class (in our
"classless society, ha) and by the time they leave
"public service" they are wealthy or they leave
"public service", to take extremely lucrative
"jobs"(no work required, you did it in office baby).
I can not believe that Americans, especially DU'ers, have not
watched the SIBEL EDMOND'S testimony, and not forced this
issue. Please, go to bradblog.com and watch it. Sibel
names, names and she tells exactly how this system of bribes
and coercion works. I can not believe that there has been
silence over her testimony. She tells us the names of
politicians (that she knows) taking bribes and being
blackmailed. Come on DU'er's,(at least) lets get those names
and events thrown all over the internet, so maybe the
"media" will have to say something about it.

Moyers says it would be better for Obama to lose and come back to fight again than to pass a bad bill.

"Half a loaf" does not feed the crowd.

He could not be more right.

intellectual authority to speak truth to power missing from most of the MSM. The conservatives tried to silence him years ago, but he's back and with a mission. If you want to hear the real story watch his show on PBS each week.

Edited on Sun Aug-30-09 12:29 AM by slipslidingaway
By Chris Hedges, Philadelphia Inquirer. Posted January 19, 2008.

In this interview, the resilient 2008 candidate attacks the "inside game between competing corporate interests" that dominates American politics.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=2718048&mesg_id=2718048

"...Hedges: Have we evolved into a corporate state?

Kucinich: I Look at it as the political equivalent of genetic engineering. That we've taken the gene of corporate America and shot it into both political parties. So they both now are growing with that essence within. So what does that mean? It means oil runs our politics. Corrupt Wall Street interests run our politics. Insurance companies run our politics. Arms manufacturers run our politics. And the public interest is being strangled. Fulfilling the practical aspirations of people should be our mission. How do we measure up to providing people with jobs? It was a Democratic president that made it possible for NAFTA to be passed, causing millions of good-paying manufacturing jobs that help support the middle class. . . .

NAFTA, GAT, the WTO, China Trade, and every other trade agreement that's passed in Congress has been passed with the help of either the leadership of or with the help of the Democratic Party, knowing that each and every one of those agreements was devoid of protections for workers, knowing that if you don't have workers' rights put into a trade agreement then workers here in the United States are going to see their own bargaining position undermined because corporations can move jobs out of the country to places where workers don't have any rights. They don't have the right to organize, the right to collective bargaining, the right to strike. So what I see is that the Democratic Party abandoned working people, and paradoxically they're the ones who hoist the flag of workers every two and four years only to engender excitement, and then to turn around and abandon their constituency. This is now on the level of a practiced ritual. At least a biannual ceremony, or every two years. So you can see how pernicious this becomes when the minimum wage increase was tied to funding the war. That, to me, says it all. Because it is inevitably the sons and daughters of working Americans that are the ones who are led to slaughter. Aspirations for health care..."

32. Since Bill Moyers has worked in the Government previously
I think, what he has to say has a lot of merit. I hope, the current administration recognizes it too. Let's hope for the best. You should check out his other interview too that I posted a while ago. You might find it intriguing, that he talks about regular people like us taking it upon themselves and asking the Government and the President to make the right decisions. And, you have done just that. Cheers!!!

43. Priceless
Some many salient points -
The problem is the Democratic Party
Refuting the notion that a half a loaf is better than a whole loaf - fight for a whole loaf and if you lose the battle come back and fight again. Essentially he's saying that it is better to have fought the good fight and lost than to never have engaged.

45. Is it fascism yet?
If Mussolini was right, and fascism is best described as "corporatism," i.e. the merger of business and the state, and if Moyers is right, and we have two political parties who have been completely captured by business interests, then how is this not fascism?

Is not America now a fascist state? Moyers doesn't say this outright, but is that not the logical conclusion of the argument he is making?

I think Huey Long, one of my favorite historical characters in American politics, would have said about today what he said about his time. Some things never seem to change, except, I wish we had a King Fish today.
