CNN Reliable Sources w/ HOWARD KURTZ - Aug. 30, 2009: New York Magazine's Kurt Andersen appears on "Reliable Sources" to plug his new book, "Reset," in which he wrote about what he calls "kind of crypto-racist feelings" and "Glenn Beck nuttiness" in the wake of the inauguration of Barack Obama.

"People like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Keith Olbermann, are invested in a certain kind of anger," he said.

He further comments on why Beck's "nuttiness" caused sponsors to commit not to advertise on his TV show in the wake of his saying Obama is "a racist."

1. Memo to Kurtz: Don't add KO's name just so you'll appear to be even-haned in your criticism.

Keith Olbermann is invested not in anger but in justice. If you want a left-leaning pundit who's really just invested in anger, I suggest Ted Rall.

2. Agreed, I saw this earlier and thought he completely ruined his argument by adding KO to the list

It makes as much sense as equating DU with Freeperland. I see Keith Olbermann's tone of voice comes from a deep seated frustration to get the FACTS out there. Glenn Beck & Rush Limbaugh's 'anger' is devoid of reason and based solely on hate, disinformation and fear designed to stir up their minuscule base for nefarious reasons.

3. Just for my own information
Was it really “the market” correcting the nuttiness of Glenn Beck by withdrawing their sponsorship?

I thought it was the bean-counters in various advertising departments realizing the effect that the Color of Change's boycott would have upon their bottom line and their brand’s reputation?

4. That Market Correction Worked Great for the Iraq War Lies.
Oh that's right, the Government would never lie to get the Country to go into a historic War without a good reason right?

Nah, let's just hire Petagon retiree's with lots of stock in Haliburton to paint a rosy War picture for the saps on the Living Room Couch. This guys sound like an apologist writing a Propaganda piece on the Media that's supposed to calm down the upset America public.

6. Thanks for the KO quote.
Won't bother watching the fool.

More evidence of what's wrong with our flipping media.

7. I think as despondent as the far right make things, they were always there these last ..
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 06:44 AM by GivePeaceAchance
8 years but as much noise as they are making they can't overcome the fact things are changing and will change further no matter how irate their tantrums become. It's going to get better folks don't doubt that at all. This is something they won't hold back not matter how many guns they wave around or how much intimidating they want to use folks are hardened to it and even bored by it. We're moving on and moving up. We'll overcome them by simply doing the right thing because the right thing has to happen.

8. KO does NOT equal Beck

Find me a clip of KO even CLOSE to lying and distorting the way Beck does.

You can't. So let's quit pretending please.

Half of the US is BAT SHIT crazy. So CNN, the leading media example of Stockholm syndrome, has to continually tiptoe and tap dance around the simple, brute fact that that the right wing is fliied with racist, lying, scamming hypocritical homophobes.

What a fucking garbage dump CNN is. Fox is worse, of course, but that should only INCREASE the burden on outlets like CNN to be more aligned with truth. Hey CNN: JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE TWO PARTIES, DOESN'T MEAN THAT ONE OF THEM CAN'T BE WRONG ALMOST ALL THE TIME.

Olbermann is outspoken. That's about all he has in common with the bottom-feeder Beck. Nobody's complaining that Beck is outspoken; they're complaining that he's a LYING SACK of SHIT. To compare him to KO is just about the weasliest move I can think of, and these mealy-mothed "moderates" at CNN who don't give a FUCK about the facts, just pretend the KO = Beck, because they're so desparate not to lose reich-wing viewers and advertisers.

9. Be reasonable, tell the facts at the end of the day...
Uh...that's what Olbermann does.

Anderson talks about distortions and lies, but I want them to show examples of such.

Can anyone find a lie or distortion from Beck?

From O'Reilly?

Lies and distortions from Keith Olbermann?

I'll bet 2 of these searches turns up stuff in no time. One...not so much.

10. As soon as he likens Limbaugh to KO
I'm out.
Makes me sick when I hear these fuckers with their "fair and balanced" bullshit.
