Health care reform protester (Faux's new martyr) Bill Rice tells Neil Cavuto how he got his finger bitten off by a "deranged individual" from MoveOn.org.

Rice admits punching the suspect after he allegedly calls Rice "an idiot." Then Rice threw another punch that "ended up in his mouth," at which point the suspect bit off the finger, which Rice says cannot be reattached due to "bacteria" involved in the incident.

Rice says he does not plan to sue, but jokes that he may need to take up "different piano lessons" after the confrontation. He also joked about having his bitten pinky finger "bronzed" so he could wear it around his neck.

Cavuto also asks Rice what he would do if he ever saw the suspect again. "The smart thing for me to do is turn around and run," he said.

He goes on to say that these health care reform town halls are about something "much more devious... I think it's nothing more than a diversion."

At the very end, just after this clip finishes, Cavuto nearly burst into tears and whispers, whilst showing the picture of the supposed finger biter, "I will find you!"

...........please, please, PLEASE tell me that the guy couldn't have the finger re-attached because his insurance wouldn't cover it, or he couldn't afford health insurance, or something like that. Oh, that would be poetic justice.

OK, so this guy punches another human being in the face TWICE and gets the tip of his finger bitten off, and they're mad at the FINGER BITER? I thought they were the Party of Personal Responsibility. I thought they were the Party that told people that if you've had bad things happen to you, it's your own stupid fault.

By the way, if Cavuto REALLY wants to find the finger biter, I wouldn't mind calling his bluff. I'm 6'6, 300 lbs, former college Offensive Lineman, and would LOVE the opportunity to come eye-to-navel with Neil Cavuto and watch him back down from his tough-guy persona. The trouble is, I'm an attorney as well, so once he sat down in the chair, I'd STILL be able to out-argue him too.

If only to hold him to his own beliefs. The best way to protest government run health care is to quit sending the government your medical bills moron!

hit the pro-health care guy twice and that --- the second time he hit him his finger ended up in the pro-health care guy's mouth. First, sounds like the guy on TV responded to a verbal insult with physical violence. That could mean that the guy on TV is the one who actually committed the assault. Unless he has an in with the local police, he could end up as the one in trouble. I don't have all the facts. I'm just suggesting that is possible under the facts this guy on TV presents. Further, the guy who bit off the finger may not have done it intentionally at all. It may have been a reflex action. It's possible that he fell forward and clamped his teeth. Hard to say.

Being yelled at or called an idiot is not grounds for hitting the person who insulted you under most circumstances. I don't believe that is basis enough for self-defense.

The people who attended the Move On vigil had to park in a lot and then cross the intersection where there was a small group of anti-obama protestors. They were a surly bunch and tried to engage everyone who crossed the street, but most of us ignored them.

There was an old lady who was pro-health care reform and she decided to hand out some brochures to the anti group. When she tried to do this an old white haired guy in a green T shirt told her to get lost or he would hit her.

One of the people waiting at the light to cross, a guy in black shirt and shorts intervened to try and help the old lady.

At this point I heard the loud voice, looked over and saw the Anti-Obama old guy in the green shirt sucker punch the guy in black. This first punch caused the guy to tumble to the ground into a busy intersection/median and knocked off his baseball cap and glasses. Then the old guy punched him again HARD. Apparently this punch landed on the guy's mouth and he bit him.

So, the right wingers again are the originators of the violence and when someone responds to protect life and limb they cry foul.

Neil Cavuto should be ashamed of himself for not checking his facts.

I won't watch Cavuto but I did look this story up elsewhere on the Internet, and have two comments.

First, your headline claims Rice got his finger bitten off. The hospital reports that the Rice lost only the top joint of his pinky.

Also, that same hospital source mentioned that Rice has Medicare coverage.

So, my question is, why was Rice protesting against other Americans demonstrating to get the same kind of health care insurance that he already has?

That is quite possible. The guy who claims to have lost the tip of his finger admits to having hit the guy who bit it off not once but twice before it was bitten off. And he doesn't claim or admit to having been hit back from what he told Cavuto. That suggests to me that the guy who did the biting was not in control of the situation.

Based on the statement on the Cavuto show, I envisage that it happened like this:

Let's call the guy whose finger was bitten off the aggressor #1.
Let's call the guy who bit the finger off aggressor #2.

#2 calls #1 "idiot" or some bad name.
#1 hits #2.
#1 hits #2 again in the face.

#1, shocked and frightened by the first unexpected blow to his face is further shocked to see that #1 is about to hit him again.
Just as #1 gets his finger in #2's mouth, #2 clamps his mouth down.
