Just hours after Van Jones resigned amid a "vicious smear campaign" as President Obama's green jobs czar, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, who was just scheduled to appear on "This Week," said that "what Van Jones decided was that the agenda of this President was bigger than any one individual.

"He was going to get in the way of the President, and ultimately this country, moving forward on something as important as creating jobs in a clean energy economy."

Gibbs also said that Obama does not endorse Jones' previous controversial comments, and he thanked Jones "for his service in the first eight months in helping to coordinate renewable energy jobs that are going to lay the foundation for our future..."

Video of Gibbs on This Week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Hjf-xy3ZTo

Jones was only "getting in the way" because Obama obviously thinks Faux's demands are worth listening to.

I'm http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x365437">reposting the below as an update and for those who may have missed it...

"DefendGlenn" posts a video and Faux are immediately all over it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HziIaNStjD8

The same thing happened with the "assholes" video, it was DefendGlenn who uploaded it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt66eWnjoTo

Check out their website: http://www.defendglenn.com

Glenn Beck (Faux) used YouTube and that website to fight back against Color of Change's boycott campaign and doing whatever they could to destroy Van Jones' career in the process. Well, it worked and Obama caved in to Glenn BecKKK's (Faux's) demands.

Here's the Van Jones President Obama employed and then threw under the bus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SmF3B3734E

And in the videos linked to here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x364847

I wouldn't be surprised if big coal/oil hand a hand in this (Faux's war against Jones), too. They are obviously afraid of the REAL change that Jones was advocating.

1. As distasteful and unpalatable as it is, the they doesn't want any distractions from the healthcare
debate. The double standard of the media and the republicans is outrageous, but healthcare will be the fight that he will wage now, and he will not let anything detract from that

2. If Jones had not resigned, the Media would have breathlessly covered
Jones 24/7. Health Care would hardly get an honorable mention.

To be fair, when you are honored enough to be part of the
White House Administration, your behavior has to be next to
perfect.

A White House Position is so much more than that of an entertainer
on TV. The White House Member is held to a much much higher
standard.

In conclusion, ADM. could not afford to lose coverage on
Health Care. They did what they had to do.

5. Once it got PAST just the Glenn Beck Show, he decided to resign
CNN started to cover it also, and I believe ABC as well. When it was just beck, he wasn't going to make the leap, but after the other media picked it up, he had not choice. It was going to be a distraction to the agenda. He was right to resign as much as it sickens me to admit it.

18. WHAT?
Tell me again what exactly Mr. Van Jones did? not the unfounded accusations by FAUX news and Rush limpballs. WHAT DID HE DO?

So when Conservatives set their sights on anybody in the Obama Administation is this the reaction we can expect?

I am really disappointed. If we don't stand for anything no one will stand with us.

11. Jones could have told it like it was but using different language.
What was really the most damaging was the story line--
Jones, an avowed Communist. This was presented as
fact. This was not done in the usual way. a general
accusation. Americans tremble and shake at the very
thought of a Communist in the government. People accept
the fact that there are American Communists. In the
governmen--no.

4. Turborama: Are you anti-Obama? That's how your post reads.
First, Obama didn't do anything. An advisor resigned because of some controversial petition he'd signed previously. So the fact that you would blame Obama for that means that you are anti-Obama in the first place.

Second, I wish the guy hadn't resigned, since he seems to have been an expert in his area. But his prior position (that the government was involved in murdering thousands of its own citizens) is pretty wacko and IS a distraction from the advisor's job and Obama's goals.

Sheesh. Get a life and quit blaming the guy you obviously hate (Obama) for everything that happens in the world and in the country.

Hey...I'm behind on my laundry. DANG THAT OBAMA! It's HIS fault!

9. No, I think Obama should have rejected his resignation as a matter of principle
A principle that no matter how hard Faux pushes him, he won't succumb to their wishes.

I don't HATE Obama and anyone who has been following my posts over the past year will find that obvious - have a look at my journal to see why I support him on Afghanistan, for example. I am very disappointed that the man I fought for day and night during the election let Faux win. My main concern is the environmental catastrophes that are happening (and are around the corner), that was the main reason I was behind Obama on the 1st place and have been very excited about his green initiatives. I heave been following this Glenn BecKKK war on Jones and what I do HATE is that he has won.

"Get a life and quit blaming the guy you obviously hate (Obama) for everything that happens in the world and in the country."

Anyway, an immature ad-hom like this against me because I'm expressing my disapproval has turned me off debating this with you. I am reading other posters' responses and taking them on board, though.

Respected Leaders and Families Launch 9/11 Truth Statement Demanding Deeper Investigation into the Events of 9/11

NEW YORK CITY, NY (Oct. 26, 2004) - An alliance of 100 prominent Americans and 40 family members of those killed on 9/11 today announced the release of the 911 Truth Statement, a call for immediate inquiry into evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur. The Statement supports an August 31st Zogby poll that found nearly 50% of New Yorkers believe the government had foreknowledge and "consciously failed to act," with 66% wanting a new 9/11 investigation.

Focusing on twelve questions, the Statement highlights areas of incriminating evidence that were either inadequately explored or ignored by the Kean Commission, ranging from insider trading and hijacker funding to foreign government forewarnings and inactive defenses around the Pentagon. The Statement asks for four actions: an immediate investigation by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Congressional hearings, media analysis, and the formation of a truly independent citizens-based inquiry.

The Statement's list of signatories includes notables spanning the political spectrum, from Presidential candidates Ralph Nader, Michael Badnarik, and David Cobb to Catherine Austin Fitts, a member of the first Bush administration, as well as Washington veterans like Pentagon whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg and retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern. Other signers range from peace activists like Code Pink co-founder Jodie Evans and Global Exchange's Kevin Danaher to former US Ambassador and Chief of Mission to Iraq, Edward L. Peck; from environmentalists like Randy Hayes and John Robbins to business leaders such as Paul Hawken and Karl Schwarz, CEO of Patmos Nanotechnologies; from populist journalist Ronnie Dugger to renowned investigative reporter Kelly Patricia O'Meara.

The Statement also includes 43 noted authors, including New York Times #1 bestseller John Gray, as well as 18 eminent professors, historians, and theologians. Other notables include five-term Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, singers Michelle Shocked and Michael Franti, and actors Ed Asner and Mimi Kennedy.

The Statement was facilitated by 911truth.org, a leading coalition. The organization has also announced a press conference outside of Eliot Spitzer's Manhattan office (corner of Cedar and Nassau) at 2:00PM on Thursday, Oct. 28th where 9/11 family members and victim group representatives will file a formal complaint demanding the first criminal investigation of 9/11 events by the New York Attorney General.

The Statement

We Want Real Answers About 9/11

On August 31, 2004, Zogby International, the official North American political polling agency for Reuters, released a poll that found nearly half (49.3%) of New York City residents and 41% of those in New York state believe US leaders had foreknowledge of impending 9/11 attacks and "consciously failed" to act. Of the New York City residents, 66% called for a new probe of unanswered questions by Congress or the New York Attorney General.

In connection with this news, we have assembled 100 notable Americans and 40 family members of those who died to sign this 9/11 Statement, which calls for immediate public attention to unanswered questions that suggest that people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.

We want truthful answers to questions such as:

Why were standard operating procedures for dealing with hijacked airliners not followed that day?
Why were the extensive missile batteries and air defenses reportedly deployed around the Pentagon not activated during the attack?
Why did the Secret Service allow Bush to complete his elementary school visit, apparently unconcerned about his safety or that of the schoolchildren?
Why hasn't a single person been fired, penalized, or reprimanded for the gross incompetence we witnessed that day?
Why haven't authorities in the U.S. and abroad published the results of multiple investigations into trading that strongly suggested foreknowledge of specific details of the 9/11 attacks, resulting in tens of millions of dollars of traceable gains?
Why has Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI translator who claims to have knowledge of advance warnings, been publicly silenced with a gag order requested by Attorney General Ashcroft and granted by a Bush-appointed judge?
How could Flight 77, which reportedly hit the Pentagon, have flown back towards Washington D.C. for 40 minutes without being detected by the FAA's radar or the even superior radar possessed by the US military?
How were the FBI and CIA able to release the names and photos of the alleged hijackers within hours, as well as to visit houses, restaurants, and flight schools they were known to frequent?
What happened to the over 20 documented warnings given our government by 14 foreign intelligence agencies or heads of state?
Why did the Bush administration cover up the fact that the head of the Pakistani intelligence agency was in Washington the week of 9/11 and reportedly had $100,000 wired to Mohamed Atta, considered the ringleader of the hijackers?
Why did the 911 Commission fail to address most of the questions posed by the families of the victims, in addition to almost all of the questions posed here?
Why was Philip Zelikow chosen to be the Executive Director of the ostensibly independent 911 Commission although he had co-authored a book with Condoleezza Rice?
Those who are demanding deeper inquiry now number in the hundreds of thousands, including a former member of the first Bush administration, a retired Air Force colonel, a European parliamentarian, families of the victims, highly respected authors, investigative journalists, peace and justice leaders, former Pentagon staff, and the National Green Party.

As Americans of conscience, we ask for four things:

An immediate investigation by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer
Immediate investigation in Congressional Hearings.
Media attention to scrutinize and investigate the evidence.
The formation of a truly independent citizens-based inquiry.
Given the importance of the coming election, we feel it is imperative that these questions be addressed publicly, honestly, and rigorously so that Americans may exercise their democratic rights with full awareness.

In closing, we pray and hope for the strength to approach this subject with wisdom and compassion so that we may heal from the wounds inflicted on that terrible day.

23. He is an expert at getting green jobs going
He WAS college student communist as in community should support each member, not stalenist or maoist.

I have been tracking his progress for years.
He did a lot of good for his community by putting at risk kids to work and teaching them how to install solar power systems etc.

WTF has glenn beck done that is good for anything.
He should be shot, like any other rabid wild animal.

30. When people resign to spend more time with their family.
Do you really think that is the reason why? Really? I am curious to know because in my opinion that would be quite naive. Working out an example, please let me know if this reflects your line of reasoning"

Let's say that a politician appointed to some position totally screws up, drops the ball on a major issue and/or is under heavy scrutiny for something very controversial. There is nothing but negative TV coverage on it 24/7, possibly the person risks being sent to prison and it is directly associated with the administration to the point where the press secretary has to explain it on a regular basis. Many people think... this guy should be taken out of office or not be a part of the administration any longer. Then suddenly, you hear that the politician decides to spend time with his family. Let me know which thought runs through your mind:

a) He suddenly decided how important his family. Wow, what a nice guy!!! He values family first and it was purely coincidental that he decided to spend time with his family while he was under heavy scrutiny. Boy, the timing was uncanny.
b) He was "encouraged" by the administration to tender his resignation.

Based on everything that you have said, it is not really clear that this was your point. Now that we have established that, let me say that it is a very weak point you are making. Let me check the Internets to see if I can find a Video of Obamam sitting him down and demanding that he resign. After all, in your world, that would be the only way to come to that conclusion, right?

32. What is controversial about an American citizen
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 04:01 PM by sabrina 1
asking questions, expressing doubt about a theory put forward by an administration that lied about everything of importance for the past eight years?

And what is more controversial, a General implicated in an official report of being involved in breaking US torture laws (Sanchez) or a guy who asks the same questions a majority of the people in the US and around the world are asking? Who are we worried about here? The opinions of tea-baggers? Is Obama worried at all about the opinions of his base, you know, the people who will get him re-elected unless he continues to cater to the rightwingnuts?

What did Bush do when faced with controversies about his cabinet members? He gave them medals of freedom and declared the issue 'dead'. Crimes were committed in those instances, here we're talking about someone expressing an opinion. Didn't Obama say he wanted people around him who disagree with him? Now he makes a point of pointing out he did not agree with Jones. Why? Should everyone in his cabinet agree with him and he with them?

If Obama had stood by him, used his bully pulpit and his popularity by dismissing the birthers/tea-baggers and Faux by announcing to the country that these were simply partisan attacks from the fringes of the far right to try to distract from the business of the country the story would have died. He should have declared the issue dead. He has far more power than Glenn Beck and he just handed a whole lot of it to a clown called Glenn Beck. He has emboldened them, and the question is, who is next on their list? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. Nice move, Democrats, we can always count on them to cave to the right, but NEVER to their base. That is whose opinions they should be worried about.

36. Why are so many posters relegating Beck to some sort of God status lately?
Beck here, Beck there, Beck everywhere.

Beck is a nobody. Enough already with that fat little albino.

Nothin wrong with asking questions. Something pretty controversial about signing a petition indicating that our government conspired to kill several thousand Americans. That's pretty wacko. As in birther wacko. As in...President-will-indoctrinate-our-children-with-a-speech wacko.

Those knee deep in the wacko-ness? They don't see the wacko. But that doesn't mean it's not wacko. It's wacko stuff to think that, suggest that, sign a petition suggesting that, etc. Everyone in the country thinks that conspiracy theory is wacko, except the few people who believe it.

Elvis is alive. LBJ killed Kennedy. Obama's birth certificate and the birth announcement on record are falsified, and the Hawaiin officials are in on it. Bush killed over 3,000 Americans intentionally. Wacko stuff.

39. And now you're defending Glenn Beck?
Did you even read the OP? This was all about Color of Change's boycott against Glenn Beck. You have heard about the boycott, haven't you? http://colorofchange.org/beck/

6. Caves to Glenn Beck? Not so much.
Jones's resignation was proper. Beck's criticism was shockingly well placed, but he simply joined every other thinking human in recognizing that Jones really screwed up.

For Obama to do the wrong this simply because Beck supported the right action would have been really, really stupid.

8. If one must be diplomatic with an asshole like Ahmadinejad . . .
. . . one should be equally diplomatic to assholes like Boehner and McConnell.

The advantage of not working in the high levels of government is that stiffs like you and I don't have to be diplomatic. We get to call an asshole an asshole. The unfortunate people who have to deal with assholes from day to day don't have that luxury.

Van Jones forgot that and paid a price.

13. But Bush called Adam Clymer an asshole and conservatives applauded
Cheney told Senator Leahey to go fuck himself and puffed up his chest and boasted about it. Democrats will always lose when they bow down to right wingers hypocritical demands.

Fuck Beck, Fuck Republicans and Fuck Fox News assholes.

Now, I can never work for a democratic president no matter how focused my ideas or how much I know about the field.

Fuck fuck fuckety fuck fuck fuck

We always come off looking weak in these events. I am tired of looking weak and being beaten down by right wingers.

FUCK!

26. Actually, you are the brainwashed minority
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 12:50 PM by Turborama
You and your gullible brethren who believe all the corporate backed Goebbels-esque hate and fear filled lies and disinformation that Faux News spews out are being brainwashed and you don't even know it. I suppose ignorance is bliss, though.

This brainwashing has been going on for several years and you still haven't worked it out, how pathetic: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x844844

15. What burns me
I know they're a pitiful minority, but it sickens me to watch the freepers hail Beck as a hero for ousting Van Jones. It may be inconsequential in the long run, but this actually strengthens them. It strengthens the whole lunatic right to be able to oust one of Obama's team without Barack even putting up a fight. Who's next? Glen BeKKK is pumped right now, and so are the pseudo-assassins of the right.

20. Yes, the whole Van Jones was making a distraction to health care, sure he was right...
Edited on Sun Sep-06-09 12:15 PM by GivePeaceAchance
it's more simply that we can't give the right license to do what they do by doing it ourselves. Sure the people can call them as they choose, but to start battle of name calling is creating a circus. They want us to be down at their level, they want us to lose all integrity, they intentionally push all our buttons to do that but it's wisest that officials don't got there and keep it focused on the arena of ideas. Van Jones was totally right but his honesty was making things difficult, whoever takes the job next has to have a very touch skin for this cabinet position. Hope the best for the guy in whatever he does next but at the same time I can see how the call was made.

31. People need to start "getting it"
Obama was offered the Presidency precisely because he was willing to "cave." In exchange for signing on the dotted line, and agreeing to keep us in Iraq and keep us in Afghanistan (Gates now calls himself the Secretary of war!) he also agreed to look out for the banksters at the expense of the small business person.

Just as Clinton before him always caved.

In Clinton's defense - for much of that Presidency, there was no major Dmeocratic majority.

But what the hell is Obama's excuse? Other than the fact that the DLC is as right wing as can be, just not Nazi right wing like the Bushies were.

The first thing that the 2007 all Democratic-majority Congress did was to raise Postal Rates for the small busienss person. And it has gotten worse and worse.
