Yes, I clearly recall the excessive news coverage of the hundreds of thousands in the USA and around the world protesting in advance of Shock 'n' Awe.

Yes, lib_wit_it, the first March on Washington to protest Dubyah's imminent illegal invasion of a sovereign nation was much larger than the M$M reported. In fact, we watched several news cameras pan the sparse edges of the crowds, and were certain our numbers would be misrepresented.

Maher should already know that protests are still happening throughout the US, but the M$M actively avoids covering any political action not specifically endorsed or promulgated by their Corporate Megalomaniac puppetmasters.

However, I think Maher is spot on about Obama's efforts to woo Teh Stoopid. As George Bernard Shaw remarked "...mever...wrestle with a pig, you get dirty; and besides, the pig likes it." The more Obama caves to Teh Stoopid, the more he resembles a corporate shill.

His daughters deserve better, and so do we.

Clarification - Hartford Courant says crowd was in the hundreds. 2-3,000 is the number Tom Scott stated in his speech.

A couple hundred is the correct number, in my opinion.

nonetheless I agree with his overall commentary.

This is great stuff! I remember Obama being quoted as saying, "I'm not a sap". I've been waiting for him to act on that statement by setting some limits with "Teh Stoopid", but I guess he's all talk.

Someone, somewhere referred to Obama as "Dr. Pangloss" i.e. the character in Voltaire's Candide who philosophized that "This is the best of all possible worlds". I think of that a lot. Seems fitting for him.

I remember the March for Women's Lives, the largest march on Washington in history, that was ignored or minimized by nearly all media in the US. Our POS newspaper hid it in a tiny paragraph on the third page, while the front page (weekday edition) had Gloria Vanderbilt's obit, full above the fold, and full below the fold? A human interest story about how tough life is for Evangelicals. :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

I was happy to see how many men were there, and how many YOUNG women.
They had signs telling what state and/or college they were from. It was fantastic.

I know so many of us have made phone calls, written letters, signed petitions, worked for election reform, worked for health reform... all the while trying to be civil, and GUESS WHAT? We can't throw the BUMS OUT, WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY!! All we have is us! Why are we so complacent?? When will we finally have ENOUGH of speeches with hidden messages and twisted words?? So many keep saying "give Obama & the Democrats TIME!" Well, I don't think we have much TIME and I'm tired of trying to figure out what exactly anyone means when words come out of their mouths!!

I realize I'm ranting, but so many of us are ranting too, but we are doing it ALONE & AT HOME!! Where has the real activism gone? As Bill so clearly states, the CRAZIES DO get out and get ATTENTION, and they seem to get ALL the attention, as we just sit and wait to see "where, what or when" a piece of legislation gets passed!

WE ARE LETTING THEM SCREW US, and I personally think we MUST find a way to make enough noise before those who are SUPPOSED to represent us, actually ruin this country! And as I type these words I know in my gut, some here at DU are going to jump all over me for saying what I'm saying!

I'm a Boomer Liberal and can actually remember when PROTESTS meant something. Why do so many here and all over think that we can't make enough noise to at least SCARE a few people up there??

Bill Maher is cheer-leading, and he does it well, but once there was a time when people like him REALLY got behind a MOVEMENT to help "we the people" organize and show how mad we really are??

I have no answers, but I do know that there are many "groups" out there who feel as I do, we just need to get all of them together and start ONE BIG MOVEMENT! Day in and day out I wonder if I will just cover my head and run away or will I keep trying to make my voice heard! I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!

I DO KNOW that America seems to be called the GREATEST NATION ON EARTH, but I think we say so "by default" because while we sit and wait, OTHER NATIONS are getting ready to pounce when the time is ripe!

I could go on and on, and I'm sure others could too... but I'm with Bill Maher, Obama DOES need to basically tell them to SHUT-UP AND SIT DOWN... he's talking and they had better be listening!
