at the University of Indiana is someone we should believe when it comes to analyzing photos to determine crowd numbers. If you check his sources, he uses Michele Malkin and a FreeRepublic article/thread to support his findings.

And of course, he only viewed one video and the photos were limited.

Go away, the kid is out of his league, has no expertise and wasn't even there.

Forgot to add - Malkin even backed off her original numbers and recanted the count she (and the organizers) attributed to ABC.

2. Since when is it OK to only agree with the president?
Is this guy serious? Has he completely blotted the Bush years out of his memory? From 9-11 through most of 2005 if you disagreed with Bush you were an 'America-hating Nazi enabler who supported the terrorists'.

be allowed to get away with making such an unsubstantiated claims so radically off from the actual number of 50,000-60,000 that the park service estimated. "A" university? which one? Bob Jones? Liberty? Let see the study fuckhead. Site your evidence instead of just showing some random video and lounge arrogantly in your armchair and proclaim it so.

Yeah..... some University....

The reality is that if Fox had to use actual stats to support their claims, the show would be one long string of Crickets chirping. If we are going to cite Universitie, I would actually like to see a University do a study on how many people actually attended. The can call it: "Study of how many people disrespected the memory of 911 by attending Hate Rallies". They can include Beck's hatefest, but make it more general to include KKK rallies, White Power meetings, etc.

11. Why not just refute it with two independent sources?

ABC had it at 60-70,000, and published a specific repudiation of the idea that they initially reported 2 million. FreedomWorks simply made that number up, attributed it to ABC, and then called Little Green Footballs.

The Associated Press had it at 50,000.

Beck's full of shit, everyone knows it. Except the irretrievably stupid.

40.7 million? - rose up and overthrew the government that day?
Not sure which university said that either.

26. Here you go a real life research professor and expert on crowd estimation (not a ROTC cadet)
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 10:20 PM by merh
says the crowd was about 75,000

Farouk El-Baz, a Boston University research professor and expert on crowd estimation, said his informal research from media coverage indicates 75,000 as the peak number. Peter Piringer, a spokesman for the District of Columbia Fire Department, said he made an unofficial estimate of 60,000 to 70,000 at the beginning of the event.

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2009866973_crowd15.html

Oh, the photo on page 7 is from 1997 and not from 9/12/2009 - that is the freerepublic photo/thread he relies on.

From PoliticalFactCheck:
But it turns out the photo is more than 10 years old, apparently taken during a 1997 Promise Keepers rally.

-snip-

Yet the photograph so widely posted showed the crowd sprawling all the way to the Washington Monument, which is bordered by 15th and and 17th Streets.

There’s another problem with the photograph: It doesn’t include the National Museum of the American Indian, a building located at the corner of Fourth Street and Independence Avenue that opened on Sept. 14, 2004. (Looking at the photograph, the building should be in the upper right hand corner of the National Mall, next to the Air and Space Museum.) That means the picture was taken before the museum opened exactly five years ago. So clearly the photo doesn’t show the “tea party” crowd from the Sept. 12 protest.

Also worth noting are the cranes in front of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. According to Randall Kremer, the museum’s director of public affairs, “The last time cranes were in front was in the 1990s when the IMAX theater was being built.”

It appears that the photo was actually taken in 1997 at a rally for Promise Keepers, a group for Christian men. According to the group’s Web site, nearly 1 million people attended the event. Photos of the Oct. 4, 1997, event that were posted on various Web sites in 2003, 2008 and earlier this year show either the same picture or a similar photo that has identical tents and what appear to be TV screens in the same locations.

Conservative bloggers who originally posted the picture have backed down.

Malkin, like some of her conservative cohorts, retracted the number she had attributed to ABC when the network chastised FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe, whose organization arranged the event, for inaccurately telling the crowd that the news organization had reported the crowd at 1 million to 1.5 million people.
