3. I'd say that it's a valid call. The issue then isn't to fix this, it's to fix the problem.

I can see how domestic violence is a pre-existing condition. For that matter, serving in the military would be as well. Just about everything can lead to some special risk. So the only thing to do is to get rid of Pre-existing conditions, and the only way to do that is single payer. I know, I know, it's off the table. But seriously, if you owned an insurance company would you insure someone who was almost guaranteed or who was actually guaranteed to cost you more in payouts than you collect in premiums? Of course you wouldn't. It would be insuring against interest.

Making the world aware of all the ways the private insurers can screw us over is a good thing.
