Sickening. I posted last night of my son's first hand accounts of riot police terrorizing students. This video takes place inside of University buildings.

1. CHEMICAL weapons?
As the title says, "tear gas and pepper spray". CHEMICAL weapons? Come on! I am not going to judge whether what the police did was right or wrong without having more information, but I have a problem with your characterization "terrorizing students" as well. When you participate in an unauthorized demonstration, you should assume that something like this may happen. It's not pleasant, it involves some small amount of risk, but overall it's not a huge deal. You don't want to take the risk, stay at home.

4. The title is taken directly from the You Tube link. That's how the video forum works.
So save your self-righteousness for someone else. And as for staying at home, those students WERE "at home" and were not participating in any of the demonstrations. The enclosed walkway the police fired tear gas into connects university dorms to other buildings on campus.

Wow. Pathetic how quick some "progressives" are to defend police brutality. Just what should the students have done to escape from the LRAD devices that were fired last night for hours on end throughout their campus? Any advice as to how they could escape the painful noise randomly directed at innocent students?

6. I did not know it was a YouTube title
What triggered my comment obviously was "Chemical weapons". Tear gas is not mustard gas and such heavily loaded terms should not be thrown around carelessly. That's all. But since it was not your term, I apologize.

As for judging the police action, I was not defending it, I just said (if I remember correctly) that I do not have enough facts to judge it. I will form an opinion when I know more.

2. sick display of police force and terrorism- the students appeared to be just observing the protest.
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 12:31 PM by BREMPRO
do the G20 corporate sponsors bring in special asshole squads to terrorize people exercising their first amendment rights to protest? The kids in the vid were in their dorm stairway, not even on the street. What gave the police the right to trap and assault them?

3. The protestors don't seem very well prepared. No alcohol balloons? Paintball guns?

5. Those weren't protesters. They were students inside university property.

10. And that is the problem. These were not armed protesters. These were kids whose dorm was there,
where the protest was.

PA Democrat, can you give me the link to your son's report?

Thanks.

11. Hey Nikki, I've been in touch by phone with him and
reported what he and other students saw as well as what the Pitt News has been reporting.

There is a good Twitter feed here describing ongoing police action again TONIGHT (Friday) against peaceful protesters and observers. University officials reportedly intervened to prevent police from setting off tear gas inside the Towers dorm lobby to disperse a peaceful sit-in. Cops have been using the LRAD and tear gas again tonight on peaceful protesters and bystanders. The conduct of the police has been disgraceful. The mayor is promising an investigation after numerous complaints were lodged after last night's fiasco.

12. Here is another video worth checking out.
Riot police entered dorms and were screaming threats of expulsion. Most students reported being more frightened by police than the protesters. There is a lot of anger on campus tonight directed at the police.

14. The riot police entered the dorm and threatened the students with expulsion?
The didn't even do that at Kent State.

Expulsion? For a sit-in? In their own dorm?

This isn't about violence. It's about pictures.

16. Nikki, I had problems with the first video but here is another video
of the same thing happening again last night. Cop is claiming that when they give a command to disperse that it's almost like "martial law" and that if students leave they will be arrested and could be expelled.

These videos are in the hands of the ACLU. The ACLU is looking for additional video and eye-witness accounts of inappropriate behavior by police. I am pretty sure that a lawsuit is going to be filed.
