According to Pittsburgh officials, 17 to 19 people protesting against the Group of 20 summit were arrested during a chaotic march outside downtown. Officials say, anarchists responded to calls to disperse by rolling trash bins and throwing rocks.
Let the pictures speak for themselves.

1. So was it the police doing the rioting?
'Cause it looked like they outnumbered the protesters three to one. Aside from the "lol lets roll a dumpster" guys (Seriously? Schmucks, you need at least three dumbsters and a crowd behind you) it was the cops conducting the aggression.

3. No kidding. At times, they acted completely terrified of these people.
Riot lite.

4. Like against the fence?
They looked like a bunch of kids confronted with junkyard dogs, didn't they?

I was embarassed by that. These are the national guard, state troopers, and Pittsburgh PD? How fucking useless

5. What are they afraid of?
My guess is that they have been told, in their training, that these protesters will hurt them, bust their kneecaps, might have weapons. Their training created the fear of what were, in fact, kids.

6. Bingo. And not just these protestors
Police are taught that their population is the enemy. Everyone is a potential perp, and it is their job to prove their innocense to cops, who due to the way the system works, have no incentive to assume innocence anyway. A false bust is stil la bust and looks good on their record. Throwing innocent people in the clink "by mistake" just makes them look like energetic go-getters who are serious about their job.

Which is a fundamental fucking problem with police i nthe United States. They are the only public service profession that gets paid to treat people poorly.
