Stephen Fry and zoologist Mark Carwardine head to the ends of the earth in search of animals on the edge of extinction.

In New Zealand the travellers make their way through one of the most dramatic landscapes in the world. They are on a journey to find the last remaining kakapo, a fat, flightless parrot which, when threatened with attack, adopts a strategy of standing very still indeed.

btw wikipedia has a sound clip of the Kakapo's mating call: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakapo#Media

2. IBTL
Kakapos are ground dwellers and rats destroy their nests and eggs.

Parrots love the one they're with and they're with the one they love. They aren't too particular. It was probably the green jacket that mmmmm excited him.

3. Douglas Adams wrote a book based on the documentary
Last Time to See.

He said that it was his favorite of the books he has had written, which is saying a lot since he wrote some really great stuff. If you haven't read it do! It is really worth it.

4. I watched her do that "Moment of Geek" last night....
She said to stay tuned, because tonights "Moment of Geek" was going to have some "boom-chucka-chucka-boom" in it.
After she played it, I thought she was going to lose it she was laughing so hard.

Is there anyone who could be more fun to have a bunch of drinks with than Rachel?
Especially, if she's the one mixing them!

11. I've had it since I was a kid.
I remember the recurring dream that I had.

I think it's more related to seeing Hitchcock's "The Birds" at a young age.

12. I killed 2 hours recently on this web site...
OMG

http://www.mytoos.com/

Read the stories and the pleas for help.

I mean I like birds and all, and my cousin has a big ass bird.

Ever been in someones house and your drinking beer and smoking weed and watching TV and chilling and everything is cool and all of a sudden a bird the size of a microwave oven buzzes your ass?

It's an attention getter, let me tell you.

Anytime an exotic pet is suddenly introduced into a situation that you are unprepared for, or to stoned or drunk for, it's bad news.

Sitting at a kitchen table drinking and playing cards.
Guy gets up and comes back with a freaking tarantula crawling up his face.
Couple of days later they put a mouse in his big tank and the mouse promptly ate five of his eight legs.
Pissed off mouse.

Fucker spun around in circles for three days after that and then died.
He ate that fucking mouse though.

I ain't down with no parrot that's going to fuck me or eat me.

Check that website out.
It's very honest and very, very, informative.

14. It reminds me of the famous statue of Pharaoh Chephren
This is one of the best known statues of Old Kingdom Egypt -- and I've wondered for years what's really going on with that hawk behind his neck. Standard texts describe it as "protective" -- but there's only one set of circumstances under which I've ever seen any bird extend its wings in quite that position. And this parrot video seems to confirm it.
