Funny that BecKKK doesn't mention George H.W. Bush's efforts to push volunteerism even as recent as a couple of days ago!

Also, starting at the 3:22 mark there is a clip of Michelle Obama saying that the four major networks - ABC, CBC, FOX, NBC - will partake in a week long television event in support of national service. I guess BecKKK doesn't realize he is bashing his own people!

21. Jones is a promotional figure
Willing to take a hit from the public to get an audience.

I find him completely different from Glen Beck. While both are ego driven approval seekers Jones has run some good documentaries. The JFK slide show done by John Hankey for one. Hankey is a must watch for all D/U'ers. Really.

In short: Jones is a flawed man, but some of his message is valid. An interesting source at times.

Where he loses me is when he mixes in the clearly whacked out crap with the good. Just like Tom Flocco does.

The President's Volunteer Service Award program was established to honor volunteers that give hundreds of thousands of hours per year helping others. These volunteers can be individuals, families and organizations located throughout the United States.



Purpose and establishment
The purpose for the President's Volunteer Service Award is to honor the hundreds of thousands of people across America that have volunteered hundreds, if not thousands of volunteer hours over their lifetime. As of August 2006, there had been more than 484,402 awards presented to volunteers across the United States, with over 333,489,249 volunteer hours recorded. <1>

The program was established to honor the volunteer works of individuals, families and organizations throughout the United States. There have been several variations of this program using different names, including the President's Volunteer Action Award from the 1980s.

***The current program is called the President's Volunteer Service Award and was created by President George W. Bush in 2002.***

He made this program known during his State of the Union address. In January 2003, President George W. Bush created an Executive Order that created the Presidents Council on Service and Civil Participation. The Council was established to recognize the important contributions Americans of all ages are making within their communities through service and civic engagement.<2> The President's Volunteer Service Award is an initiative of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the USA Freedom Corps and is administered by the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network.<3>

32. I belong to a volunteer organization that sprung up from OFA. So far we
have collected food for local food pantry, ran a charity raffle to fund books for young kids, collected pjs for kids in foster homes, collected school supplies for under privileged school kids, and now we are making plans to adopt a local family for Christmas. If this is what they call communism, then BRING IT ON!!!!!!

35. GOPers like Glen Beck believe they can cure the world of empathy and fight anything
which might help it grow in people. That way the poor and the middle class will have more in common with the GOP agenda (which is based on what rich people want: not to pay any taxes which would redistribute that wealth) and will vote with the GOP (the rich assholes are not numerous enough to win a majority of anything so the middle class and the poor have to be tutored into becoming assholes themselves).
