7. I am a bit concerned about him.
He sounds very choked up, and strained.
It is wonderful to have someone up there on the Hill come across as caring, and I do not doubt his sincerity.
He sounds angry, and that can be a good motivator.
I hope he does not become overly stressed, however.

35. I'm choked up- very powerful speech
This is the kind of speech that has lasting potential to put this place right. This should be on prime time news, as it would have been a couple decades ago.
Hearing this after Bohner's snark, Boner is very small, petty, shameless.

40. People who are able to feel and express their emotions are healthier, both emotionally and
physically, than those who either don't give a damn, or who choke down emotions.

A large part of the illness in this country is caused by our inability to express emotions.

Tears are a great stress reducer.

It's so sad to me that we have been so misinformed about emotions.

11. Jumping over to Freeperville and u see they DESPISE this guy...for CARING?!?
It is truly night and day between true democrats and republicans. Repubs dont give a damn about others and dont think far enough to realize that it hurts them too. They truly are sheep. It is quite remarkable to realize this. They are powered by emotions and single issues...nothing more. It is a testiment to the importance of proper upbringing and education because when you have both you are likely to be a democrat.

30. hazmat
How do you tour through freeperville without a full hazmat suit, and a prophylactic pint of Pepto? I try now and again just for the sake of trying to gauge the depths of that cesspool but can never last more than a minute or two. I salute your tenacity, perseverance, and courage. I notice, via a thread at Daily Beast, where blowhardbillowlielly sent his weasel producer Jenkins out to ambush Rep. Grayson and of course the fuxian true believers are touting it as an example of Grayson's self-serving nature and the jouranimalistic integrity and acumen of fux noise. Boy are those people confused but loud and zealous.

21. That Would Be A DREAM!! Florida DESPERATELY NEEDS Some New
young BLOOD, and someone who at least cares! My wish for him is that he remains steadfast and doesn't get used as a "whipping boy" by all the CROOKS in Congress! So far he has spoken out MORE for THE PEOPLE than almost anyone else in Congress and has only been there about 9 months!!

And yet, even Anthony Weiner complained about him about 2 days ago! While I agree some of his statements needed to be "toned down" I MOST certainly feel he has a HEART OF GOLD! It's more than a travesty that OUR GOVERNMENT has lost touch with "we the people" and ONLY THINK of where their NEXT dollar will come from!!

IF THEY WOULD only listen to this man, perhaps they could get a few BUCKS from "we the people!" I have VERY LITTLE money to give, but I will try to collect all the change I keep throwing in a jar, perhaps at least $50.00 not counting my thousands of pennies (I will keep them) and send it to him for his re-election! My mother-in-law just passed away, but because she was a military widow, she had Tri-care and Medicare! She had severe Alzheimer's and was no longer there in any way, shape or form! I don't want to sound morbid, but SHE GOT CARE! We were fortunate enough to have Hospice come to our aid and take her in for almost a year, and then 2 months ago they had to let her go! She died within 2 months. The THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of dollars that was spent on her care was truly amazing! A woman who was 96 & 97 who had no idea of what was going on around her simply lived on pretty much as a vegetable, because she didn't die. I say that with no malice, we loved her, but I'd bet good money that had she really known what she became, she would have been mortified!. My own mother died of pancreatic cancer and in the end made this comment... I want to die, I just don't know how!" The last 2 weeks of her life, all she did was drink morphine before he organs failed. She was 67! My mother-in-law was DNR and was given NO EXTRA drugs or care because of it! She tooK NO medication of any kind, she just lived on!

She lived with us for almost 10 years as we cared for her until she could no longer walk or talk and the social worker told us we should remove her from our home because we might be held accountable for something that might go wrong! To the DEATHERS who talk about "killing Grandma" must never have known anything like this! People came to us at the funeral and gave us sympathy, but in reality it was a relief, for her and for those of us who truly loved her. She just wasn't there! She married late, had 2 sons and in the end she lived to be 97, her husband having died in 1996! My husband retired early so we could care for her, but as I said she was fortunate enough to have had insurance and we are grateful for that. Still, I saw first hand the bills that came in and it astounded me that a woman who was healthy in every other way other than Alzheimer's and took no medication could have amassed so many medical bills! THERE IS SOMETHING wrong with THIS SYSTEM TOO!!

If only we could fix HEALTH CARE for those who could be helped BEFORE they get sick would be a miracle in and of itself. NOT THIS CRAP that they are trying to push upon us right now! It keeps getting more and more watered down, and even many here at DU accept how much less that gets offered. JUST TO SAY WE GOT HEALTH CARE!!

We need REAL HEALTH CARE, for those who die way before their time because they have NO ACCESS! How many of you REALLY think that this WATERED DOWN stuff they seem to be offering will REALLY do all that much good? I WONDER, I REALLY, REALLY WONDER!

Thank You, Alan Grayson for your stories and for you outspoken, heartfelt care!

15. He is their conscience. That's why they are afraid of him.
He really cares and those who care only about profit do not want someone like Rep. Grayson around as he shows them for what they are.

He turned a statistic into real people. Those who run this country try to hide the dead, the troops, the Iraqi people, the people of Afghanistan, and these Americans who are dead because of the selfish, heartlessness of America's government.

Even if he cannot move them to do what is right, he has done so and I for one, will always remember him for that.

He is crying for those poor desperate people. What a wonderful human being he is ~

This is so sad

27. And we have never heard how many with insurance die
because their out of pockets are so high they still can't afford care or to continue care as those "cost sharing" (as out of pockets are called in the new House bill) costs pile up.

39. Also because so often if a person has been diagnosed with one disease
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 08:50 PM by truedelphi
The health professionals refuse to hear about similar symptoms. Just like in the first example - the person with the hernia had pains that could be attributed to the hernia -even though they were actually pain from colon cancer.

My dear friend Paul, he had Hepatitis, and his lung cancer symptoms were dismissed as being part of the Hepatitis symptoms. Until finally the tumor was the size of a football and was wrapped around hsi heart. The tumor ws deemed inoperable, at that point, and he died within four months.

But he had been complaining to the doctor for two or three years.

Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 05:32 AM by PatrynXX
Memphis Belle telling I think John Lithgow who was yippi hippy about the belle possibly coming home but forced John to start reading the leaders asking about soldiers who had gone on and the captain had to answer them.

Hey Joe No. Do you have a heart? Every get choked up? You start reading these letters and tell them with an emotionless face you worthless sack of shit. I can't believe I voted for that guy in 2000.

The emotion behind Grayson sounded fairly sincere. I can't imagine how he even made it through ten minutes of that. It'll only make him fight harder. What really annoys me is there are (and I mean this) sick fucks on the right saying the site is breaking the rules. Which rules? Certainly not their moral rules. Do they have any moral rules?

Can't tell.. there's the Repukes and now there's the conservatortures. Nothing like hearing Hannity say it's not a Republican, he's a Conservative. Okay fine. Fox is gunning for a Conservative party. doesn't change a darn thing.

I'm suffering from severe depression. I go on this site to vent. It helps a bit. My parents help me pay for insurance at I think $300 a month because at first I was denied in 2001 for having a pre existing condition, but could get in if my mental health was not covered. That's my main issue. Mental illness. My pre existing was OCD. But since nothing after that was covered fortunately I'm in a state where it's free depending on how much I make. I'm unemployed so it's free right now to have to see peoeple. Not always free for the drugs but it's getting better in Iowa. Wisconsin was much the same way although then I had BC/BS. So of course when I moved to Iowa, I thought Wellmark was BC/BS and oh did I find out that wasn't true. Or so they claim.

PS: David Strathairn was the actors name according to imdb.com # Memphis Belle (1990) .... Col. Craig Harriman

Cable TV like Fox News should be made to read the list of people dead from lack of health insurance every day.

Perhaps we should have Town Cryors who read out this information in the town center or outside shopping malls every day.

Had turned on CSPAN around 5ish EDT and saw him on the floor giving this speech with a posterboard next to him with the namesofthedead.com website printed on it. Was surprised the House had already gone into Special Orders session so "early" in the day allowing for a primetime coverage for him.

Bravo Rep. Grayson! :applause:

28. Real Democrats
When I log onto DU, I do it because of people like Rep. Grayson.
When I say I'm a Democrat it's because of people like Anthony Weiner.
I am not a Republican because of forces like fox and other dark entities.
When I listen to Randi, Malloy, or Thom Hartman, I know I'm in the right place.
I have an ex-friend that happened to "find the Lord"..He once asked my why I embrace my brand of politics... I simply stated "The truth"..This fired him up. But I know what is right, and I refuse to budge!

32. This is so hard to watch...People died who did not have to die...
and ONE MAN speaks for them!

Listen to the ages of the dead...33, 24, 52; it makes no difference, they will not see another year, it's all over. Painful deaths, treatable conditions, people cast out of society, onto the streets without even the slightest hope of being pain free for even a few moments.

My father passed away in 1965 from colon cancer, long before it was treatable under todays standards. It took him 3 YEARS to die, and throughout all of that, my mother fought tooth and nail to get him pain meds, (Morphine was about all you could get back then), and we three youngsters were instructed in how to inject him so that we would not add to the problems he faced. Each time a new Rx was written, there was a physician cost for a visit. Morphine is cheap, Dr visits aren't.

Rep. Grayson has done us all a service. None of us can know when we will be where these people have been...Lives gone, children orphaned, children gone to early graves....and some stinking D's and a crapload of R's can see beyond that pile of cash with the "googly-eyes" on it.

It's simple people...too many people are sick, dying and can't get help. A society is not judged by how it treats it's wealthiest citizens, it is judged by how it treats the least of it's citizens.

33. Rest assured that every major media outlet,
right wing financed PR firm, Republican think tank, far right financed investigative agency and probably both the RNC and the DLC are busy looking for dirt on Grayson. If they can't find anything pretty soon they'll just pull something out of their collective ass and trumpet it 24/7. That should defame him just as well as the truth they couldn't find.

41. That made me cry, and cry again
I don't want my kids or my husband to have to write to that site. I dont want to have to write to that site about anyone in my family. I came damn close to being one of the dead. None of us know when it could happen to us. I sure didn't. I almost died of a rotting, dying leg, that could have been preventable. I was turned away from my doctor's as well, that I paid out of pocket for, for each and every visit. Im lucky i lost my leg, and not my life. Those stories are all to real to me.

I get treatment for NOW, because of the pending appeals to Medicaid. We are self employed. AND in Texas. We. are. screwed.

Yeah, those stories choked me up, because I keep wondering whether it will be someone in my immediate family, or me. I dont fucking get it.
