Full story here:

Senator Vitter doesn’t know if Loving was correctly decided.

Vitter graduated Tulane Law School in 1988. Loving v. Virginia, decided in 1967, was a unanimous Supreme Court decision that declared state anti-miscegenation (interracial marriage) laws unconstitutional. It is one of the bedrock civil rights cases, right up there with Brown. It is simply not credible for any lawyer to claim ignorance when asked about Loving.

Anyway, this question did not come out of the blue. Several weeks ago, I invited Senator Vitter to condemn the racist Lousiana judge that refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple. Vitter passed, simply smiling at me as the elevator doors closed on him.

1. And Clarence Thomas NEVER discussed Roe v Wade....EVER...dontchaknow.
Republicans LIE, misdirect, or obfuscate with every answer they give. They're wired to do it.

2. I'm in Louisiana, and am embarrassed by everyone in Congress from here
except, ironically, Cao.

Vitter is a sleazebag- you could see that when he first ran for the House. I think it's OK for him not to know or remember the case off-hand, but when told it was a Supreme Court decision outlawing anti-interracial marriage laws, he should have said yes. Still, I don't like this "gotcha" "journalism" from either side. The sleazebag comes out looking better than he should.

3. What an unfair & inappropriate question!
After all, he has to be able to maintain ties with his base.

4. The REPORTER screwed up...
The reporter should have worded his question differently and just asked if Vitter 'believed in interracial marriage'.
Most politicians and lawyers will not comment on a specific 'case' unless they have 'thoroughly read it.
