This is a fantastic recap of John Edwards Road to One America Tour - it's a bit long but well worth the watch. John Edwards represents honor, integrity and dignity and he will bring that to the White House.

3. One America - Fuck the rest of the planet
This clown knows he's running for President, doesn't he?

Edwards's vacuous homespun "man of the people" pose is getting a bit tiresome. Being a total imbecile in international affairs counts for nothing when it comes to the most powerful office on Earth, I guess.

Just like 2000. "Hey, a 'dumb as us' guy! I'll vote for him!" What goes around comes around.

7. It's not enough
23 million into primary education? That's a fifth of the number UNFPA estimates to be without it: and ActionAid (a repulsive outfit, I know) estimates that "Universal primary education would cost $10 billion a year - that's half what Americans spend on ice cream." Edwards expects "US allies" (with maybe 30% of world GDP, assuming he means developed countries rather than the likes of Pakistan) to pay the other 80%.

Edwards proposes to increase US investment in clean water in developed countries sixfold. That sounds heroic, but without data as to the impact it'll make, it's meaningless. And presumably this will go in tandem with continued insistence on privatizing water supply.

"Economic initiatives like microfinance and micro-insurance" are a neat development option. Indeed because they're explicitly local, they don't require any US action at all. US financial involvement would destroy the very basis of the whole movement, reliant as it on trust and a "pay when you can" approach.

A Cabinet member tasked with overseeing US efforts to fight global poverty is a sound idea. But without a repudiation of the violence and economic aggression that's accompanied US foreign policy under both parties, it's meaningless. Will John Edwards offer better than war founded on presumption and short-term self-interst rather than evidence of need? His statements on Iran suggest not.

It's nice to hear Edwards looking overseas rather than relying on empty demagoguery to boost his ratings. But he needs to see the world not as some charity receptacle but as a community to work within. His strategy pronouncements suggest he has a long way to go.

9. I get the feeling that if Edwards was a reincarnation of all of the greatest leaders of the world...
... and brought peace, prosperity, social & economic justice to every inch of the planet, pre-k thru college for every human, and singlehandedly reversed global warming, it wouldn't be enough for you. Thanks for your input.

And, again, for being an Edwards' "auto-threadkicker"! :hi:

10. Thank you ...
... for the predictably vacuous response.

Edwards isn't about to bring peace, prosperity, social & economic justice to every inch of the planet, though, is he?

Instead he's reached his own personal conclusion about Iranian nuclear intentions quite contrary to those of the IAEA; he's embarked on some personal crusade to ally European Nato members with an Israel fresh from devastating a neighbor; and he's offered no way out of Bush's nightmare "clash of civilizations" beyond more of the same.

Like I said, time he told us his strategic intentions. Or does he just think his plans for America's future conduct in the world are something the American people don't need to know about?

11. Perhaps you could post a thread about a Democratic presidential candidate that you support?
That is, if there is one that you support.

8. I sympathize...
... but frankly I consider this barrage of vacuous Edwards puff-pieces at least as much a breach of DU's spirit as my own very negative comments. I certainly wouldn't have singled out the candidate for such criticism if it weren't for these peculiarly biased postings.

I'm genuinely disgusted by Edwards's evasion of the massive geopolitical issues that the incoming Administration will face. He - and others - have a responsibility to Americans to say where they're going to take this nightmarish war. I feel that Edwards has so far been the least forthcoming. I'd welcome something positive from him, rather than this constant refrain of merely domestic reform which we'd all otherwise welcome.

12. Biased?
Edited on Wed Jul-18-07 02:33 PM by waiting for hope
I posted a video of his speech from Memphis wrapping up his Road to One America tour. If you feel you need to vent on Edwards - and frankly, I believe you would need to include all the candidates running for President in your rant, then post your own, unique, "special" OP - and if you can't see anything positive in the context of his speech,
Eeyore, then I truly feel sorry for you.
