MSNBC Countdown w/ KEITH OLBERMANN - 5 January 2009: Olbermann And Rev. Welton Gaddy Discuss Brit Hume's Tiger Woods Claim That He Must Become Christian To Be Forgiven.

GADDY: "He's talking on a national news program; he's giving his opinion, as he has the right to do. But anyone who is pro-American, who loves liberty and this nation, wants to support the unity of religions and not contribute to their divisiveness. And his statement, though he backed up on it a little bit last night, his statement was still a judgment about another religion, a judgment he really doesn't have the authority to make."

- snip -

"Absolutely, Keith... the fact is that Judaism has a strong doctrine of forgiveness, other religions practice forgiveness, as well. What's interesting in this instance is that I, personally, was offended by the way in which Mr. Hume talked about forgiveness and repentance within Christianity. He described the situation in which it was almost like, here's a marketplace of religions from which Tiger Woods can draw, and the best one to go to, where forgiveness seems to be cheapest and redemption cheapest, is Christianity. That is a striking sign that he doesn't understand the pain that goes with forgiveness..."

3. You can watch it from MSNBC
It's nice to know they are back.
I get tired of the phone-it-in shows they do each year around the holidays.

5. More Christian nuttery.
Do actual, mature, serious Christians appreciate this "support" from Hume? If not, are they saying anything about it? These nuts always get away with outrageous statements, as long as they are conservatives. It must be nice to be invulnerable.

7. sorry, what the reeked of - get out of jail free card ...
more than anything it exposed the tragic melding of "christianity" with republican politics ...

BO is a "christian" but still is vilified by these arsehats ...

What I got from him was this pervasive mentality by those on the right that if you are republican AND christian, you can do WTF you want ...

6. Imaginary friends ........................
Keith, before you can be taken seriously in matters of religions and the nature of their imaginary friends, how about letting us know a little about where you stand? Where you coming from, boy?

I'm just sayin ........................

8. You're just saying something stupid.
He's criticizing the hypocrisy and hubris that so many conservatives demonstrate in their lives. There is nearly nothing about Olberman (or practically any media watch dog) that could be "exposed"--in particular, having a christian faith--that would invalidate that criticism because of the important thing: He is not claiming authority based on his own purity, which is what conservatives like Hume, Bennet, Limbaugh, Cheney, Bush, et cetera constantly claim. Even when those people are caught in the act, they will demand that their actions are still above reproach. The arrogance of those conservatives is the problem; they use their moral and religious posturing as a tool.

Cosmocat's statement is what is between the lines: Conservatives constantly state that christianity is superior, but that is most likely because of the "get out of jail free" situation that so many of them enjoy. Teflon christianity.

That is what his criticism is and that's why your insinuation is stupid.

9. you're an idiot
I didn't insinuate anything. I asked a question.

And, by the way, the list of names you came up with is stupid, Mr./Miss/Mrs. stupid. I doubt seriously if the word 'christian' or faith or plenty of others commonly used by 'the faithful' have ever been uttered in public by limpballs or the yellow-striped cheeney.

When you make up a list, think about who is being included. I think every one you listed should be in the gene pool when it is cleaned, if it ever is, but your list shows your biases and little else. Moran.
