Hanford is the name of a former nuclear weapons production site located in south central Washington state. Established in 1943, Hanford released radioactive materials into the air, water and soil. The releases occurred mainly as the result of routine operations but were also due to accidents and intentional releases. Many of those who lived in the areas downwind from Hanford or who used the Columbia River downstream from Hanford received doses of radiation. Those doses may have caused health problems or might cause them in the future. The basic assumption of radiation protection is that any dose of radiation poses a health risk.

This publication presents some basic information about Hanford, the radiation it released and how people were exposed to the radioactive contamination. It also provides an introduction to the possible health effects from radiation exposure. Because the largest estimated exposure from Hanford could affect the thyroid gland, this publication includes a special section on thyroid disease. Also included are descriptions of HHIN publications that offer further information.

1. This is what I like to see more of the positive stuff than the negative ...
Edited on Tue Feb-02-10 12:32 AM by ProgressOnTheMove
because once folks can see how Pres. Obama has saved their a**. We can get more of the good stuff done. Accentuate the positive, if possible eliminate the negative. I'm just having to zone out the detractors now because when I'm positive and motivated my best ideas and suggestions come to me. It's good to have ideals but some are just way ahead of the curve but have no doubt Pres. Obama is on that curve of progress.

always be s whole host of issues to be concerned about. I'm just personally staying focused on getting all the good we can get done now so we're in a more secure place (at least with domestic policy) should the GOP get back on top.

3. Why are the cars going so fast at the 3:20 mark????
Is he on a green screen? The thing is he has sun on his face and looks to be right next to the road and is talking at normal speed while the cars go past him at like 500 miles per hour.

6. Good damn reporter!
I loved his use of words.

Also, this has to be done, and it has to be done sooner rather than later. If the "watchdog" had major objections to the way the waste is handled, or any others, he could have filed suit for injunction.

Looks to me like a "label" is made - We. Clean. Up. Republican. Shit.

Love it.

9. Let's not attack the watchdogs...
They are the activists. If they stopped raising issues, progress would end.

10. Not all watchdogs are created equally!
Most watchdogs and whistleblowers are the cream of the crop. Others (and I know a few) latch onto an issue and never, ever let go - even when the issue is resolved - as long as their faces/names are in the spotlight.

A few Palin-haters (of which I are one!) here in Alaska come to mind............

11. This clip really made me think
I think this video is one of the best examples I have seen of how fucked the media is in this country. Its so easy to trick people into bashing things like the stimulus when the news NEVER reports anything about all the positive ways it has effected us. Driving down the freeway near LA the other day I noticed a big sign saying that this freeway was being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and it pissed me off so bad because I live in a very republican county and I knew that shitty republicans who talked smack about the stimulus were driving every day on a freeway funded by the stimulus. The stimulus has its problems but it has pretty much done everything they said it was going to do.
