1. Democrats in Peril
If the majority Democrats in the U.S. Senate don't figure out a way to kill the filibuster and end the Republican 'tyranny of the minority', then we're going to have a majority Republican Senate next year.

And people are starting to figure this out: that something is dysfunctional with the Senate Democratic leadership.

4. And U think voting for those who certainly won't do anything for the people is what we'll resort to?
To senate dems: "You didn't get the job done so we'll just vote for those who'll make sure it NEVER gets done and in fact will do just the opposite"???

Yeah, that's the ticket. (Because you didn't prosecute the rapist...we're gonna' vote for the rapist, type logic. Apathy is what repubs are striving for)

6. If by majority you mean 40 or more Republicans, sure.
They never needed more than 40 to shut the Senate down.

They might break 45, sure, but unless that promised leadership pivot utterly dissolves I don't see how an outright majority without untimely Dem demises is even possible.

It isn't the Senate leadership anyway. It is Democratic Party leadership. Reid isn't the Great Hope but he has had force feedings of bs from Rahm Emanuel and the fellowship of New Dems. Doesn't help that all of the more Progressive members can't maintain their resolve either.

The Third Way, conservative economics, legitimacy of corporate bribery and a whole host of other problems are what's rotten. Much of the millionaire's club impotence is situational and self imposed.

The President sets the tone for "leadership."

5. Agreed - don't horse trade to AVOID a filibuster...
Let 'em filibuster. Then spin it for what it's worth! Why can't anyone in the leadership see this?

8. They see it and choose not to, for the most part.
We, myself included, have to get beyond asking why they are not doing the obvious and recognize what is hiding in plain sight.

9. The Democrats are weak and ineffectual.
I've tried to be patient, but can't begin to express how deeply disappointed I am. If the Democrats can't get anything done with a sizable majority in Congress AND control of the executive branch, what good are there? We should have just turned it all back over to the Republicans and allowed them to continue destroying the country. Maybe then people would wake up.

11. I believe John Nichols makes a critically important point around the 8:00 minute mark re:
managing the mess left by the Republicans instead of cleaning it up.

I believe should the Democrats; continue managing instead of cleaning up, they De Facto tie them selves to the same failed policies of Cheney/Bush and the Republicans in the American People's eyes, blurring critical distinctions between the Parties and thus lose any moral high ground in regards to change or real differentiation come election time.

Thanks for the thread, democracy1st.
