MSNBC The Rachel Maddow Show - 10 February 2009: Rachel makes fun of idiot Republicans saying this winter's snowstorms disprove climate change. With Bill Nye the Science Guy, who says that deniers are 'almost unpatriotic,' denying science at our country's peril.

2. I never noticed the relation between Patriotism and Science.
It was actually explained very well towards the end. He is right, science and scientists have done a lot for our country in it's development, sustainability and of course it's futre as well as impacted and aided the rest of the world. Yet we have an entire, or almost an entire party and people who actually claim and enjoy mocking what scientists are saying. Huh...it's interesting to see.

4. Bill Nye is great that way!
Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 02:53 AM by intheflow
I hadn't noticed that connection but it's a great talking point! Along with, they trust the weather forecast every day but don't trust the people collecting the data--NASA and NOAA--who are the same people talking about global warming.

5.  No snow in Canada !
Reporter on CBC Canada doing a thing on the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver talks about hundreds of trucks bringing in snow for the ski slopes. One of the officials being interviewed stated that usually there is ten feet of snow in the area where the events are being held but that this year there is only three feet, and also, below freezing temperatures usually hold steady during this period but this year there is alternate freeze/thaw conditions. Less total snowfall and some thawing. If the Eastern US/Vancouver BC flip flop isn't considered a disruption of normal, historical weather conditions and a sign of global warming then I don't know what can be. Same type of thing is happening to one extent or another throughout Canada this year in numerous areas. I can understand the Fundies not giving a damn about global warming and in full denial because they're convinced it's all going to be over in 2012 anyway and they're gonna go to Heaven on the Rapture Express, but to have government representatives on the Right in denial and Fox News and Limbaugh types spouting out their nonsense is another thing entirely. Of course maybe they've all got religion of the bible belt variety lately, who the hell knows. I think I'll start a bible study group at my house for a bit of insurance so I won't miss out if does all comes true.

6. Loved this segment, but also really really loved the way she dusted the floor with Inhofe.
The Republicans are such idiots. Clearly, they haven't bothered to do their homework. They spout off without bothering to look at the facts. Gee, who needs those silly old facts when their ideology serves them so well.

7. The idiocy of conservatives never ends.
Is this kind of thing just going to go on and on and on for the rest of our lives now? I was already sick of conservatives in the 90s. Now every single one of them is batshit insane. I can hardly believe the crap I hear from these people every day, day after day after day.

Has anyone checked to see what country has the highest proportion of uneducated, uninformed, and just plain stupid citizens? My guess: we're number one!

11. Where the right is coming from
I think in a lot of ways the rightwingers don't really care about the science one way or the other. There look at the problem from two directions. One, the obvious effect strong measures to ameliorate climate change would have on the current energy (read oil) companies and their profits. Two, this one is the most ridiculous, 'global warming' is seen as 'environmental', environmental is seen as 'librul' and as we all know all libruls were once 1960's hippies and the liberal/hippie movement of the 60's must be discredited at every turn therefore 'global warming' is wrong. The current crop of conservatives in this country think that liberals never do anything right, liberals are not allowed to have heroes and thus they must be torn down even if you have to lie and any era of liberal successes must be continual and absolutely discredited (again even if you have to lie through your teeth about it). This is why the science doesn't really figure into their 'equation' their only desire is to 'prove' to you their right even if they have to lie.

13. Great Lincoln quote comes to mind:
"How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?
Four; calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."

Abraham Lincoln

16. Same logic applies to the many pols that you see where
say 35% of all Americans and 73 of all republicans "believe" that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11 or that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. Saying that you believe that Obama was born in Kenya dos not make it true that you believe that, but it always get reported as if that was the case.

14. Proof of Fox idiocy
After a while, all the blatantly idiotic positions that Fox people take will erode their position with even died-in-the-wool reactionaries, you would think. Keep up the good work, Rachel. Great stuff.
