6. Wow. That photo montage and the Youngbloods song brought a tear to my eye.
We grew up in incredible times.

It goes to show that people with determination and right on their side can change things and make a difference.

Inspiring

7. Incredible times indeed. After watching your excellent video, ....
I researched briefly on-line seeking pictures or articles about one point in time fall-winter 1956-57, Oklahoma City, an attempted sit-in at either Katz or Woolworth’s drug stores. All I could find was lots of pics and articles about the 1st successful sit-in, which was definitely at Katz in OKC, led by Clara Luper. I would be grateful to anyone who can find information about the earlier attempted sit-ins in OKC. It is my history too. At the age of 6, my grandmother dressed me up to look like her friends, in a suit with hat, gloves and pearl necklace. We drove into downtown OKC, and took up all the seats at the drug store lunch counter……. On the way into the drug store, I saw more peace and dignity on the faces of the brave black women outside than I did on the hostile faces of the old white women sitting with me at the lunch counter. My grandmother was an amazing woman, but that episode backfired in her face. It did NOT teach me to hate anyone, but I have never worn a pearl necklace since that time.

9. Yes, that’s the 1st successful Drug Store Sit-In, August, 1958...
Somewhere there is a picture from the Daily Oklahoman, 1956, of the black ladies sitting in front of an OKC drug store. They could not sit inside because my grandmother, her lady friends and I were sitting on all the stools inside. There were many repercussions from that event in our life, a fascinating story that was not discussed in our household and they thought I didn’t remember it. When I try to tell my children about that incredible point in time, they don’t quite get the significance.
