CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. — The full force of organized labor showed up in Central Falls Tuesday, with several hundred union members rallying in support of the citys teachers and bringing plenty of harsh words for the education officials who were about to fire the entire teaching staff at Central Falls High School.

This is immoral, illegal, unjust, irresponsible, disgraceful and disrespectful, said George Nee, president of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, to shouts and cheers from a crowd of more than 500 at Jenks Park. What is happening here tonight is the wrong thing and were not going to put up with it.

Signaling the national significance of the situation in Central Falls, the American Federation of Teachers sent representative Mark Bostic with a message of support from the unions 1.4 million members.

We are behind Central Falls teachers, and we will be here as long as it takes to get justice, said Bostic.

2. This is a ploy to bust the union.
And must be stopped at all costs. We need more unions, and the Cons are trying to tell people that unions are no good. They cannot just fire staff for no reason, that's what negotiation is for. If they want these teachers out, they MUST negotiate with the union, why they want this. They cannot just blindly do this.

Stand up for all unions. Unions are the only true HOPE the middle class has.

5. Its too bad that far too many workers refused to join unions.
They dug their own grave when union membership went from 36% to 6% in one generation.

7. They were victims of
a misinformation campaign of historical proportions. Unions bent over backwards to help and cooperate with management over the past few decades. My union was giving concessions as far back as the early 1980s. Everything they did was in vain. Contrary to the right wing message-as union jobs became fewer the rate of outsourcing increased.

How many times have you heard "Unions have outlived their usefulness."? As if corporations have somehow become these benevolent entities.

Those that don't know history are doomed to repeat it. Truer words were never spoken.

8. yes, some lady where I work told me unions are pointless now, and I said, um, they won't be when
most of the union jobs are finally sent overseas, and they control our salaries and health care to the point they're paying us all minimum wage unless we're TOP tier mgmt.

corporations are not caring, nor compassionate - they're not PEOPLE either...

They must be stopped by the people.
