An angry exchange between a really hot local NY reporter ganging up with Rep. Garrett (R) against Anthony Weiner. And once again, Anthony schools the opposition on the facts! Well done sir! You know your stuff!

Weiner: "Can you think of a single vote, single vote, that republicans have taken to real in the insurance industry...a single one?"
Garrett: (long silence)
Weiner: "Thank you."

2. "Dont let the good become the enemy of the perfect"
He is quoted as saying....he has been an adamant supporter for single payer and strong PO but decided this is all they can get for now.
I have been pissed that the democrats didnt put more in for the longest time (since yesterday -- check my posts) but after reading elements of the bill and the power of the lobbyists i think it is true that this is the best that could have passed for now...really sucks...but at least reading the bill it does have some good things in it....it is a small step in the right direction...and HOPEFULLY is the starting point for a strong PO in the future...and then ultimately Single Payer.

7. Look, they got 50 votes in the senate for public option
and why are they NOT voting? This is not perfect, this is not good, it is a SOP for the insurance industry. Oh wait, their stocks aren't going up.

14. 100% agree with you! I am just as baffled with the exclusion of the PO.

10. Yep. And the standard argument is that "well, goshes, this is
the best we can get right now...". Yes, well, that may very well mean that "the best we can get right now may be the law of the land" for years, particularly if the Democrats are defeated in November. However, all this is putting the cart before the horse. I just read something that details the Republican strategy for defeating this bill. Many thing looked questionable, but one did not. Mandates. If the House tries to Slaughter through the Senate Bill, then are going to make adjustments using reconcilitation, they cannot do that with MANDATES. Anything resulting in new taxes affecting Social Security cannot be passed using reconciliation. So they would have to vote on Mandates. And, of course, it wouldn't pass. Then that takes it back sdquare one. Also, whatever they do, the Republicans can drag this thing on for weeks through maneuvers. Then we're in the beginning of election season. And those congressfolks up for election this November will have to think very seriously about which way to vote, should that be in UP or DOWN mode, or Slaughter mode.

17. What does that even mean? He "Caved"...?
As if he weakly walked away from a challenge? The REAL truth is that Rep Weiner has been the most tireless, articulate, honest spokesperson on healthcare reform on the ground. When you say he caved, you take all that effort and minimize it as if it were so much lint you blew off your cuff.

We all like to appear tough, and principled in our stances, but we're most just a group of Monday morning quarterbacks, quick to criticize and always aware of the way things "shoulda" been done. And while some Dems HAVE caved, Weiner has not. He fights on day after day. Just because you disagree with his focus doesn't make him wrong, and just because you're entitled tou your opinion doesn't mean your opinion is valid.

3. Great slap down by Anthony Weiner
No wonder Republicans have to use lies to make their points. They've got nothing of substance to debate with.

4. We started asking for single payer, then we compromised with public option,
now an exchange is the winner.

5. This is so fucking infuriating. I wanted Eleanor Roosevelt's ghost to show up and smack that
fucking twit upside the head. her job is not to shill for one side or another. I didn't hear one question for the Republican in which he had to defend his position.
