I applaud her passion and grieve for the continuing degradation of the republic. I have no idea why the democrats, in power, have become so utterly spineless.

so they did the expedient thing to keep their plans from going to hell. I certainly hope that they get more than an earful when they are home in their districts for this bullshit they just handed We the People.

I watched it live and was impressed with her speech. Rarely do you see someone defending our rights with such fervor. They tried to pass it off as just a modernization of the existing bill, but it was obvious what it was doing. You are giving complete power to Gonzo and others to spy on U.S. citizens without court approval. This was brought up explicitly and repeatedly by house members, yet it was obvious that some of the Democrats missed the point:

It is a complete disgrace to us citizens and now it is clear that there is no hope for impeachment and any other measure against this group of Constitutional whores. With the passage of this bill, the Bush Administration has symbolically gained bipartisan support to do whatever it wants. At least 41 democrats don't care at all and a fair number of them didn't even bother to show up.

Write them all down.

When the coup is complete, you know who has your back.
