1. The TSA is a collection of sick, lazy, assholes.
I've had a run in with a group, and frankly, I was ready to file 1983 charges against them.

5. Don't generalize or stereotype TSA workers. The vast majority are fine.

And they are also underpaid and have no rights.

Those that disrespect airline passengers should be disciplined.

And that would be easier to do if they had a labor union and employment contract with TSA.

Now, we have rampant favoritism in an unorganized and unled workforce.

9. "Worthless scum"? Is that what you also called the Vietnamese who supported the NLF?
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 04:41 PM by Better Believe It
Or did you just call all Vietnamese "mother fuckers" among other things?

You're lucky you've quit flying.

You wouldn't want to engage in that kind of trash talk and worker bashing on any flight that I and other progressive folks are on.

Not if you have any sense.

When you generalize and describe all TSA workers at "worthless scum" that makes me wonder what you're worth.

Do you also hate flight attendants and ground workers with the same passion?

2. I watched this entire video. If that is not some STUPID SHIT the TSA does.
What power trips they are on.

I would love to get those smug assholes and smack their silly faces.

That poor old lady, her poor daughter and poor caregiver.

Jobs should be lost over this treatment of a citizen.

8. Flew this past week end and the security checks were
okay even tho i was subjected to the complete "pat down" once.
(Am eighty one, but ambulatory. Personnel who did it was even friendly and assured me i was just a random choice.
However, this video shows a totally different approach. Totally unacceptable behaviour of both the
TSA and the police. Both need to find new jobs or else a lot of retraining IMO.....z

12. I had shoulder replacement surgery November 2009...
and started to travel again for business this March. None the less I get a "pat down" every time I go through airport security. About a week ago I was flying out of the Cincinnati airport and for some reason the TSA agent decided to jerk my arm down (the one with the shoulder replacement) during the pat down even after I told him that I had recently had two surgeries on my right shoulder, showed him the rather large surgical scar and told him that the shoulder was still very sensitive. I was not expecting that to happen and the ensuing pain was rather intense and almost put me in tears. It took the TSA supervisor about 20 minutes to calm me down. I wanted to press criminal assault charges on the asshat who hurt me. There was no reason for what the person did to me. I can also say that there is complete inconsistency in how the TSA agents, even from the same airport, do a pat down. Just today flying out of Columbus Ohio I had another pat down. I told the agent that I had had shoulder replacement surgery, showed him the scar and told him that the shoulder was very sensitive. When he was using the wand and it beeped I told him he might as well do a complete pat down of the area including the armpit and upper shoulder (front and back)which he did. Not 1 minute later the wand beeped again in the shoulder area and he re-patted the front of my shoulder area. I told him that he had already patted down that area and he said he had not. The TSA agent was a complete idiot. Again, from extensive flying and going through airport security the two people I have just described seem to be the norm for TSA agents.

Having flown over 3 million miles since 1990 and seeing the TSA hard at work I have come to the conclusion that most of them really don't know what the hell they are doing. The turnover rate is high and they don't appear to hire the best or brightest. When someone in TSA shows potential they are promoted and are no longer on the front line. Overall airport security is window dressing. It is there to make an "good" appearance so the general public will fly. On top of that the TSA can't even pass their own audits and safety checks.

Would love to find out how this ends at the court. I'd file civil charges against the TSA people.

17. Might not be "liberal"
So this might not be a tastefully liberal viewpoint, but I wholeheartedly support profiling by the TSA. Why? Because everyone knows by looking that grandma isn't a terrorist, and everyone knows by looking who MIGHT be...

19. No one is advocating profiling
If Grandma has specific dietary needs and TSA told her it would be ok to bring the foods, they should have specified how she should have done so. Perhaps unopened apples sauce containers. Tamper proof products. Perhaps items should have been ordered in advance and provided by airlines. Don't they accommodate people's dietary needs? If there is a problem, act professionally. No laughing and smirking. Call in supervisors to deal with elderly distraught individuals.

Good grief. Act human. Presume innocence if there is no real reasonable suspicion! A crying 93 year old woman is not a terrorist. TSA is when they swoop down on her like schoolyard bullies.

I would feel the same way if they targeted anyone this way. Yes they must do their job, but do it with a degree of professionalism. Don't act like a rent-a-cop on a power trip.

If they have reasonable suspicion, they should act accordingly, but calling the cops on those ladies did not make America a safer place which is what their job is supposed to do.

Profiling innocent people simply based on ethnicity is no better. Look for suspicious behavior. The real terrorists don't make scenes. They slip quietly under the noses of flatfooted security guards with no critical thinking skills like these ones exhibited. I saw multiple men pass nearly unnoticed while they all focused on granny. No one was even paying attention to these passengers and potential suspects.

Bottom line. These people need better training.

Whether or not profiling is the answer is irrelevant. Profiling already happens. Don't tell me they aren't scrutinizing every brown skin passenger already. The difference is they only harass those they "feel" like harassing. And they harass thousands of innocent passengers daily while catching no terrorists. Only 2 (shoe and underwear guy) real threats, and they boarded without problems. Yet millions have been treated like criminals. Pointless abuse of power.
