2. The problem with these television programs is that they have
such short segments that they can only discuss topics very superficially. The discussion could have been excellent had the speakers been given more time to develop and explain their responses to Ratigan's questions. As is, this discussion was pretty useless. I like Cenk and Ratigan, but the TV format is just horrible.

It seems like the point of the program is not to inform or educate but simply to fill a tiny sliver of time between ads. Everything has to be so fast-moving, so slick, so quick. It's awful.

3. Exactly.
When Ratigan started asking his question about in whose interests the government operates, I was excited that this conversation might be one of the very rare exchanges on cable news where someone says something real.

Instead we get a few hurried moments to gloss over a few things, get some talking points out with no chance for a rebuttal. We need more than this for functioning democracy!

No wonder everything's so effed up.

4. "simply to fill a tiny sliver of time between ads" - accurate portrayal
How informative a program like DemocracyNow, unconstrained by commercials and permitting 20 minutes segements on a story (or even most of the hour, on occasion).

Free market capitalism at its best. They used to have an obligation to inform us (pre-reagan). Now their obligation is to the "free" (my ass) markets.
REINSTATE THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE...we could even take all of the money out of politics with adjoining legislation.
Then we'd be too much like the "civilized nations."
If we raised the income tax, for the wealthiest, to 1970 levels, would we be "Socialists?" We'd sure as hell be in better shape as a nation. Fuck the 5%, we are the vast majority.... If the "rules" did not apply to the poorest 5%, would everyone raise hell? You Bet'cha :+

5. Dylan ran long on the banks seg so this was cut short but still...
it's true that so much of Shitstream Media is really about sensationalizing. I am so glad that Cenk is getting air time! He "gets it". Very, very important voice.

Cenk "gets it" on a lot of issues. He doesn't on all of them. But that's what America is all about. His view of capitalism being a great system and his stance on the degree of violence, allowable by the po-lice is a little thuggish, IMO. I much prefer his views to that of most public commentators. I wonder if Cenk has been arrested at a demonstration? That might (depending on his experience) change his stance a little. Like Amy Goodman, she has been there and reports on the whole attitude of the "legally elite." Just sayin.... I need to stop by and visit your site, it's been awhile. Take Care

8. He interviewed Goodman on that topic BTW.
He's had her on the show a couple of times.
