1. No need for rage.
Just turn the bad parts into better parts.

I like the thought, "those that took the wrench" do not have to worry about the machine.

And in metaphor what some think the 'machine' is, that thing will change.

It has to, there is nothing else that is acceptable. It needs to move to justice and compassion.

2. Not sure I follow you, but without rage there can be no change -

from civil war to civil rights to vietnam war protests to foundation of unions ending working conditions like slavery.

Rage is necessary for change. It isn't sufficient, but necessary.

On the other hand, our rage is mis-directed on two wars. We need that rage re-directed here at home against the real threats.

If that rage turns up in song or film or street protests , all the better. If it motivates someone with leadership skills to organize who helps direct our rage against the real enemies of the country, destructive corporations and their political benefactors, all the better.

Apologies if I completely missed your point!

3. Maybe it is a different concept of rage.
Righteous passion is good, but rage as in unbridled anger would not be good, in my view. But they have some overlap in result, look, and feel.

So maybe it is how you see the concept.

Passion is more determination and intensity, sometimes rage can have a tint of anger, although it can also be more about passionate thought and action.

and rage and its put to good effect. Probably not everyone's cup of tea but he is talking in the language he knows best and speaking out.

I can't see how you can uncouple anger from rage. Anger seems like the precursor to rage.

Yeah -I'm angry that the oil is spilling into the gulf.

I'm enraged that after a month Obama still doesn't know what the flow rate is.

5. Wasn't speaking about that singer specifically.
Just the concept of rage, and its meaning.
